Just curious is this something they give you for lap band for menu suggestions for snacks?

Cause the list has so many things that would not be pouch friendly RNY cause of simple carbs and high sugar on many items-

And many RNY post ops can not do starches like breads and crackers...... it just sits there and does not move- it is suggested we dont count the calories but go by guidelines for our stages- so we dont consume to many calories each day.

We learn probably like you do - that we must be consuming a certain amount of grams of protein/carbs/fats/veggie &vegetables and these we should be consuming each day..... a lot of further out post ops say they fell into problems counting calories cause it takes the focus off of how many grams of each food group you are trying to consume each day.....

Do lapbanders go by calories for there food program ?

Very interesting

I was told when we eat to do protein first, then veggies and carbs last.  I don't think this is a band list.  This is just a snack list for anyone.  There is lots on here that we as bandsters can't or shouldn't eat as they are considered slider foods.

Yes Patsy sounds about the same as us - its suggested to do the more protein bites vs the veggies and carbs - I actually try to do some meals just as protein then do carbs in snacks from fruit or veggy.

Now we can do slider foods just have to be mindful that we could eat a heck of a lot of something if we dont measure...... the fear of dumping keeps me away from bad sliders like sugary stuff or fatty stuff......although I dont think I dump there would be some point at which I would do some version of it and I dont care really to test the waters that much!

Seems like I have read more stories about post ops RNY just never get to the point of being able to eat pasta or rice or breads.... even in maintenance it just gets stuck- which to be honest I havent missed my bad carbs like I thought I was gonna - guess you only have to try a piece of something doughy or carby/starchy once and have it sit there like a log and not  move thru to say nope I can live without this! LOL

Have a good day

This is a great list for pre-ops trying to lose weight. I know I counted every calorie that went into my mouth for the 8 months before I had surgery. I tried to keep the calorie count at about 1200-1500 a day. I lost 40 pounds befor I had surgery. This is a great snack list for them. Us post op RnY'ers  though cannot eat most of the things on this list. I know I can't. Bandsters may be able to eat more variety but being 5 weeks post rny, I can't.

December  2007 / 293 pounds (higest weight)
Day of surgery  Feb 12 /09 / 251 pounds
Current  weight /  206  pounds
First  Goal 199  (onederland)
Second  Goal / 180  (I'd be happy here if I never lost another pound)
Final  Goal / 140  (final goal, more of a wish)

I didn't realize that RNY'ers could get stuck.  I thought that was a special treat for us bandsters !!!!!  LOL

This RNY'er will still get a stuck feeling maybe once a month - usually if I am not paying enough attention to how I am eating - or if I am stressed or hurried - food sometimes doesn't go down well.

Mary

I still cant believe how being stressed or upset or in my case having a freak fest just sets me back bigtime- the pouch no likey anything I want to put in it - I had a long recovery and some complications so I was a lot longer learning about this but it still takes me off guard. I can understand the hurrying or eating to fast not chewing enough or to big of bites etc but for the life of me I dont get how being stressed makes my pouch grumpy and not accepting of anything but a lil bite!

Ya know if my old stomach had done that all along I wouldnt have had to have WLS - the old me stress ate and well I guess happy ate , sad ate, celebrated ate - ya ok you get the idea - I ate my way to almost 300 lbs.....

In one of the nutrition classes I took from OH for support group leader I learned that most of our digestive secretions do not any longer come into play - they do not enter the pouch or play the role that they use to in digestion - where as before they would enter into our system at the small intestine they now are not available for digestion until they meet the food in the "Y" connection- hence the malabsorptive part of RNY procedure.

So that is what has me puzzled about being stressed and causing my pouch to get difficult....... if I am not getting bile secretions or stomach acid or mucus into the pouch then what is it that is making it so grumpy ?????

Ok enough science for tonight.

This came from the lapbandtalk site. I was told to have protein first at meals but nothing was said about snacks except to keep it under 100 calories.
