I need to know I'm not wasting my time
I know I shouldn't have let myself gain like I did but hind sight is 20/20. I can't change whats already been done. I actually feel like I might fall apart if I keep stressing about it but I don't want what I want to hear. I need the honesty you guys are all famous for...and a really tiny lecture woudn't hurt either. Thanks everyone. Starr
I'd be happy to lecture both of you. the last time I did, i was reprimanded and told that everyone is human and i need to be realistic.. Well I'm here to tell you that I did not cheat once while on the Optifast. I did not put one morsel of anything except Optifast in my mouth for two weeks. I wanted to be able to say at the end that I did not cheat once (without lying). and I did it. It took help from my husband at times, but this is a life long decision. More serious than any other diet we have ever been on. so you need to make up your mind to commit now.
I don't want people writing me telling me to be realistic because I am. and they asked for a lecture, so I'm willing to give one.
I'm on liquids this week due to my stomach issue and I'm not cheating at all. I'm tired of soup and jello but so be it. that's what is required, so that is what I am doing. Don't put yourself through this whole surgery thing if you really don't think you can do it. It's a lifelong commitment. It's huge. You can do it, I know you can. You need to commit. You need to hear my words, You need to hear Lise say that you have to follow the rules.
This is no game.
As charline pointed out in another post, there is no specific psych test prior to surgery, so you have to do your own. you need to say I can do this and go ahead and do it. Or you need to be strong and say this is not for me.
the band is a tool and not a fix. They keep telling you this but not everyone hears it., It will help you lose weight while you follow a weight loss program. It will not work on it's own. I am doing weigh****chers and that works for me. I've been fairly consistent in losing 1.5 - 2 lbs per week for the last year. I have not lost any more with the band, than without. but the band if you use it properly helps you deal with the hunger issues of dieting. It helps you eat smaller portions and it helps you feel full longer so you don't graze.
I hope my words help both of you and any others who will read it. If you want to talk to me by PM that's ok too. I'd be happy to motivate both of you through your journey.
Best of luck to both of you, and i wish you all the strength in the world to get through this successfully.

I did not go on a food fest - saying goodbye to all my fav foods prior to surgery - I may have had the two week freak with nerves and worry but I did not do it with food.
I was about one month out from my surgery date when I started getting really nervous about how serious and life altering my decision was - I found solace in reading a lot of books on wls and post wls and noticed that most patients post op can still have a taste of anything....... now that I am 9 months out- I am easing up a lil on my strictness not enough to be off program but trying to live -
For the first 6 months I was scared to death about dumping .... I have not dumped and dont think I am a dumper but I dont push the limits - but if something is really calling my name that my husband and daughter are eating I will have a taste.... it is never as great as the smell or what I imagined it would taste like....... so a taste is all I do - I dont have any old cravings or find food all that I thought it was before surgery- most times I am not hungry.
So in that month leading up to surgery I was very strict about my diet- I cut out my diet pop addiction and chips and chocolate and tried to eat more than one meal a day which is what I had been doing not eating all day then start with a huge supper and eat all night long til I went to bed- boy was my metabolism screwed up! I was determined to get weight off - I knew the more I lost the safer it would be for me to go into surgery.
My surgery being bumped up a week meant I only did optifast for a week - I lost 19lbs over the couple months leading up to surgery including the week of Optifast in which I lost 7lbs- which the dr didnt think I would lose that much cause of the loss beforehand but Optifast gave me the runs - really bad and midway thru the week I had to add in kids pediolite mix and clear broth cause I was dehydrating- so I guess I stuck to Optifast but had to add in the broth but it was ordered by the surgeon- I cant remember if you are supposed to take 3 or 4 optifasts but I never drank all the portions cause I was so ill with it - I just kept at the water.
This surgery will work for both of you and even though I do not have the lapband and have RNY all wls is a lot of damn hard work and a 24-7 rest of your life commitment -
Guys sit down and right down why you want this and what your health is like because of obesity..... list all the diets you have attempted and what you lost and regained....... sometimes writing things down will draw attention to things you dont even know you are feeling . Pros and Cons listed out work great for me.
For me personally it boiled down too was I was not living life - I was on the sidelines and I wanted to be a player- everything I have gone thru and even with all my complications and problems - that all being said I am now a player and living again.
Hang in there - this is worth it but you have to make sure this is for you and your type of surgery is for you - it is not a one size fits all.
Hugs and good luck
