Stressed, need to vent!!!!!

I’m so stressed out and I didn’t know where to turn, so here I am to complain/vent and hopefully get some advice. So things have been pretty slow at my office, so much so that it looks as though I will be laid off at the end of the month and if that’s not bad enough, EI is getting so backed up that it may take up to SIX weeks before I would receive my first EI cheque. I have been dropping resumes like crazy for the last couple of months with no luck. I had one interview last week but unfortunately it did not pan out. The part that I need the advice on is, what do I do about my upcoming surgery? (no date yet but Natalie told me it would most likely be in April). If I get anymore interviews, do I bring it up? Not too many employers would be too pleased to learn that they hired someone who is going to need at least two weeks off to recover then has to go to Moncton every 6 weeks for the next year. Another thing that has made this time so tough is that my husband is home with a bad back and can’t get into to see his doctor until next Wednesday. He went to the after hours clinic last night and they gave him some medication but they do NOT want him returning to wor****il after he sees his family doctor. He is in so much pain, he is now walking with a cane. So as you can see it’s going to be a financially difficult time in the upcoming weeks. Someone suggested to me that I put the surgery off, that getting a job and getting settled into a job was more important. Well, I agree that I need a job but my health is also important. So any suggestions?   Thanks for letting me vent!!!!   Jenn

Yikes!  This is not good news.  Are you certain you will be laid off at the end of the month?  Applying for other jobs you may or may not get.  If an employer wants you and hires you then hopefully they will be understanding about the surgery.  Could be that you might have the surgery all over with before you get a job???  It is so difficult to make a decision about what you need to do when it hinges on a lot of "maybes". You have jumped through all the hoops to get to this point - I would hate to see you get delayed nowThen again it would just be a delay - they don't take you off the list and make you start over.  Wish I had an answer AND I wish you could go ahead and have the surgery!

OOOOOOOhhhhh, that is a hard one.  My oponion, mum is the word. Too many uncertainties with no definite dates as of late.  Loose lips sink ships. Hang in there and feel the water. No-one has to know this is preplanned.  Good Luck, Sugarbear

I would probably take a later surgery date.  They don't put you at the very end of the waiting list.  they fit you back in when you decide you want it.

Oh Jenny,I also agree that mum is the word. You absolutely need a job. That is your livelyhood so must be a priority, however, once you're on the job it is unlikely they will let you go and have to go through the whole hiring process again just for a lousy 2 weeks ( with no issues) you'll be out.I might consider working for a short while first though. It doesn't have to be a long delay, just long enough to get your feet wet and be comfortable with the new job. Now, of course, if you don't get a job anytime soon, you can probably have the surgery and be over with it first. It is a lot to think about for you but don't let it get you too down. Things always have a way of working themselves out and I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Keep your chin up and if you need to talk, just let me know and I'll be there. Starr

I would keep the surgery to myself. If you get a job before April, I would call Moncton and ask  them to delay surgery for a month or 2, until you are beyond your probationary period.
