The end of my journey (kinda)
I know most people on this forum sees their surgery as a beginning of their weight loss journey. I don't. I see it almost as an end to 5 long years of endless clinic visits, endless weight taking, endless worry about the numbers on a scale just the end. When I went for consent signing back in January with Dr. B. I was determined that I wanted RnY. If he had said no, I would have folded my cards and walked away. I was just that determined that I did not want lap band.
I have reached the end of my rope with Dr. visits and scale hopping. For the past 5 years I have gone to Dr. Dornan's healthy living clinics every 3 or 4 months where I am first weighed and then seen by a dietitian, a physiotherapist and an endocrinologist. Don't get me wrong, they are wonderful caring people. I have also attended diabetic teaching clinics every few months too. Again it starts with getting weighed, then blood glucose measurements and more teaching. I also go to my family doctor every 3 or 4 months for another chronic condition. Again the visit starts with weight measurement. So you can se that I am sick to death of it.
My RnY represents the end of a journey for me. If I follow the recommended eating plan, there is no reasom I should not lose weight. I have to go back to Moncton every so often then once yearly for the next few years, but no more scale obsession.
I have nothing against the lap band and for millions of people it is a fantastic life saving tool. But for me it represented being tied to a clinic by a port for the next who knows how long. I wanted to move back to northern canada where I am from and there are no fill clinics anywhere near there so by not having the band, it does allow me freedom.
I am tired of clinics, hospitals and doctors. Nothing against them, just tired of always going to see them. One good thing now I guess is I no longer worry about numbers on a scale. I AM FREE!

I hear ya Baby! I am not quite as busy with the medical appointments because I refuse a couple of the routine stuff like the diabetic clinic. Even when the doctor wants me to go to adjust my insulin, I just do it myself. I have blood work every month or more frequently, see my GP every 3 months which I stretch out unless I am having issues, the optomologist twice annually, and if things stabilize and the appointments start to get less frequent- I get some (usually strange) illness that puts me back at the beginning of weekly blood work plus other appointments with specialists of every variety. My blood work will not back off because I can apontaniously start bleeding into my intestins, but fewer pills and shots will be a God send alone.
I hear ya. I have one more visit with the healthy living team (endocrinologist, physiotherapist and dietitian) in June and I need to see The Dumont Crew on Wednesday ,in April and then not till summer. I am winding down my visits. I will still need to see my gp for my other condition but I won't mind getting weighed once every 4 months as opposed to every 2 months. I am totally off my diabetes medication. I need to request a glucose tolerence test to really assess if my diabetes is totally under control. Still take my asthma puffers occasionally. Looking forward to being rid of that.
