Hi Maggie,
Whatever you do, don't try to eat beans and spaghetti this soon - they'll both make you feel very ill as the gas from beans will expand your pouch, and the white flour carbs from the spaghetti will make you feel horrible.
The 4-5 hours of feeling miserable may be dumping - are you getting cold sweats with it as well?
When I get home tonight, I have the WLS for Dummies book, and they give a menu for fresh RNY post-ops. I'll type it out and post it here for you. It may help.
Just remember that your new pouch is like a new baby stomach - what you can't tolerate today, you may be able to in a few more weeks. Try not to let it get you down, and you'll see after a month or so, you'll be getting back into the swing of things again.
I'll see if I can do a search for a fresh post-op RNY menu for you here on obeisty-help. just a sec.
here's a couple of links that I found online. The Hopkins Bayview PDF is the same exact menu as in the WLS for Dummies book:
www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/docs/nutrition_gbp.pdf
This one is a bit different, but still filled with good tips for you:
www.allina.com/ahsimages5/bariatricmanual06.pdf
I hope that you start feeling better soon, and that you can get some relief from you nausea soon.
Shirley
I've read on the Rny bypass site that nearly all surgeons and baratric teams have their own ideas about what to eat when. It's very individual. I would never take the advice of a book over my surgeon and dietitian. Dr. B. allows mechanical soft diet at 13 days post op. In my case it doesn't really matter because I can't eat much anyway. Some surgeons have you going almost 2 or 3 months before you get solid food.
I have read though that something you can't eat today, you may do fine with a month or two from now. I don't know the progression of foods in lap banders. I don't know if it's the same or not. But after not being able to eat since Jan 25 as little food as it is I appreciate every mouthful that I am able to keep down.

I trust The Dumont Crew. If I didn't have complete confidence in them I wuld have not had them do this surgery. Therefore I must comply with their aftercare as well. To do otherwise would be to fly in the face of their time tested methods. I wasn't the first person on whom they did this prcedure.
Thank you both prancing nugut and mooseheadsll. It was so thoughtful of you to offer advice and encouragement.:)
