I can't imagine I could even leave the house tomorrow. In the middle of the night, I was able to lie down for the first time.   If everyone's journey is their own, I need a new travel agent!!

It's funny...Many times I have posted how much pain you encounter after surgery i.e. not able to drive yourself home, getting around the house, laying down, getting up off the toilet, and yet no one really realizes how much pain, until they go through it themselves.  I think alot of people think that because it's laproscopic surgery that it won't hurt too bad...well they are wrong.  and it takes time and rest to heal.  It's real surgery...not fake stuff.  Wait til the port incision starts hurting, if it hasn't already.  You have to be kind to yourself and take your meds.  get lots of rest and don't be a hero.  it's very important to heal properly.

Hi Charline,

I am so happy that you are better today and that your pain is more manageable. Surgery is a hard thing to go through and I’m sure you’ve gone through the worst part of it in the first 24 hours.

Stay positive! Today is better than yesterday, so tomorrow will be better than today. Soon enough you’ll be as good as new and you’ll forget all about this pain (like childbirth)

You are in my thoughts. Take care of yourself, rest and energize that battery.

Monica :)

Sooooooo.... what you are trying to tell us is that this is not the time to come and tickle you?

I'm so glad to see you coming around and feeling better. Everyday you'll start to feel more human. Just get a lot of rest, pop some pills (hopefully have a few thrills), and take care of you.
And congratulations on your weight loss!! That's amazing!!

I think my next apt is March 20- perhaps I will see you there!!  I try to introduce myself to any other WLS people I see- a delicate process at times as you can imagine!! I certainly can't walk up to someone and say "hey you look fat enough, are you here for WLS?"
That's one fast way to get

BTW I was there until about 8pm- they keep you a long time, but not overnight.

I expected pain, but this was out of the ball park. I have had surgery several times before. This is the first time for laproscopic surgery. I have had gall stones, kidney stones, and pancreatitus- these are supposed to be the most painful things that can happen to you. I have never suffered like yesterday. The problem is that you can't do pain management at home like it can be done in hospital. I am sure that not everyone has the same level of pain. The other women who had a lap-band on Tuesday did not appear to have as much pain as I did.  I am really outraged that I suffered through yesterday for no reason. I know that pain can be managed. If doubling the medication was an option, I should have been told.  I am knowledgeable about  Demerol, morphine and tolwin. I have a good idea how to increase it within safe limits, but this is the first time for dylodid, so I took it according to the directions only.  Maybe nothing helps with the gas pain, but I doubt that.  I am going to let them know that I am not a happy camper. This should not be happening when they have the tools to manage the pain.
BTW I had the most wonderful nurse in day surgery named Lisa. You would swear you were her only patient. I really felt that she was a care giver, not just doing a job. I have to send her a thank you card.

Gas pain is different to other forms of pain. It is not really in the true medical sense pain. (Oh yeah I know to you it is pain) Pain is cause by damaged, cut or torn nerve endings that radiate to other places and up the neurons to the brain telling you there is pain. The analgesics you injest then sends messages to the damaged nerve area and quiets the nerve sensory indicator. In gas pain, there is no nerve irratation or damage. There is just a bubble or many bubbles of CO2 gas trapped inside of your abdominal cavity. Pain meds often do not reach the area because there is no nerve involved just a mass of gas. the only cure for gas pain is motion and thereby physically moving the gas int the bloodstream , bowel and lungs so it can be expelled. Sometimes there is just no medication that will work just walk walk, sit sit, walk walk.

I guess it's something like phantom limb pain. There is no limb there but the patient is in as much pain as if there were. It's true pain.
