Glad to hear all went well. Now all you need to do is take care of yourself.  But you must be a little excited to have your wait all over with. Now you are on your way to where you want to be. Thinking of you and alittle bit jealous...lol. Hope to hear more about how you are feeling and hope you get better soon.

don't know what I expected but I am in a lot of pain.  Dylodid is not touching it. Not nauseated though.  not having any trouble drinking. Hopefully I will be better tomorrow. How long did the gas pains last? Makes breathing difficult
forgot to tell you- weight was 257- down 31 pounds

WOW!!! that's a great scale victory. Way to go. Sorry, I can't answer about gas pain because on day 2 I was back in the OR and in so much post op pain, I hardly noticed the gas pain. As long as you are able to keep yourself hydrated is enough for now. Don't worry about getting foods in.Even if they are liquids. Each day the pain will ease a bit. Something to look forward to. :)
If you have Dilaulid 1 mg is not a real strong analgesic. I'd call and ask your pharmasist about switching to extra strength tylenol. The pharmasist is the one to ask. They are the drug pros.I seem to remember that you can't take both at the same time. I could be wrong. Best to ask a pro.

I have a real issue with the pain control, because there is no reason to suffer like I did yesterday. Not with the options available today. You were right about  the dilaudid being 1 mg. I may as well have been given candy. I told every one I spoke to that I was in  terrible pain but no one suggested a change in pain management.  I did talk to the pharmacist toot by the way.

When I had my hysterectomy I had terrible gas pain. It was 5 days before they gave me a suppository and I got relief from that. I had to go back in 2 months later to have an ovary removed, and I told them I wanted a suppository ordered on my chart prn because I was not going through that again. If you're sure the pain is from gas - I highly recommend a suppository. It will clean you out and you'll feel a lot better.

The worst gas pain is in my tummy, chest and shoulders. The intestinal gas has been moving along! LOL

Hi Charline

So glad your surgery is behind you and you are home mending.

The gas can take 2-4 days as you are trying to rid yourself from the CO2 the put in your tummy. The anasethic can also with some people cancause discomfort - pain and its kinda hard to figure out what is what.

Really though how long depends on how much you move to get it out - I know in pain its hard but walk her off girl -  now walking can just be up and down the hallway we are not talking sprints.... but walk and toot away.... thats what you need to do.......

Some of my walking while in the hospital was me being held up by two nurses and them holding me up while I shuffled -I was so weak to be up but I couldnt stand the pressure so  I had to get up and move..... same at the hotel it got me passing the gas and rid of the pain.

Keep in touch with the team to make sure your pain meds are strong enough.

Just keep in mind and Ann would tell you this if she was here - pooping is very important.... anything narcotic even tylenol can bung you up so be just really aware of this and make sure you dont get plugged - ya all know how Ann and I feel about our plugged issues post op!

hugs and hooray on your weight loss - the bench is yours my dear!

Charline,

I went and bought a memory foam matress topper at Walmart and found that extemely helpful to find a more comfortable sleeping position. Deb is right, you need to walk as much as you can. For me, sleeping on my opposite side of the port was the most comfortable. I would tuck a pillow real close to my chest and hug it. Also did this when I was pregnant, usually towards the end!

Everyone's journey is their own so what works for one may or may not work for another. I had surgery on Friday morning, was in church Sunday morning and at a soccer tournament in Charlottetown the following weekend!

Hang in there Charlene. Have a great day.
