Wow can't believe it's wednesdaty already.  It will be a week tomorrow since I had my surgery. That went fast.  I still have my post surgical bleed .  (I almost said post mortem lol). I guess they call it seepage. To me all I see is blood seeping through every type of dressing that I put on. All over my sheets again this morning. Just waiting for it to stop. My hemoglobin levels are low. I fell like I fell out of a tree. My back feells like  I've been bent over a scrub board washing clothes for 8 hours straight but there is some good news.  The iron suppliments I take has ended my constipation issues.  Always good news somewhere, just gotta look for it. lol Oh yeah, My weight this am was 258.

There is always a positive ... just have to look extra sometimes!

Catherine has said that her back bothered her fierce after the surgery.  I generally don't even sleep on my back as it troubles me so can just imagine being strapped with your back arched so they can work for a few hours will make it pain.

How long does the bleeding continue usually?  Keep an eye that infection does not set in.  Get lots of fluids, rest, walking etc. especially with the iron suppliments as they have a tendency to making one constipated ... so you are lucky if it is the reverse!

Take care,

M

Time flys when you are having fun! Are you having fun yet? This whole process is a bit crazy making that's for sure.  You are so happy to attain your long awaited goal (& I am not criticizing the WLS goal). At the same time you are starving yourself, getting sliced and diced, are constipated/ have diarrhea, having mood swings and or hot flashes because you fat is releasing estrogen,  headaches, and nausea. And then there's the post-op!!  Gawd, we humans are a weird lot!
And if you thought I was crazy before, I am looking forward to spending a couple of days just sitting in my lazy-boy (with a book & remote) and chatting to my fellow crazy pals on OH! !

(Don't take this too seriously- just poking fun at the process)

Yeah, you're right, you are strapped on your back for the surgery but that's not the worse. For me it was lying mostly on my back for the best part of 5 days. Like you, I have not slept on my back since 1998. Now I am able to sleep mostly on my side again but my back still hurts.

Post op seepage is not supposed to last more than 6 or 7 days so we will see then. That's the most annoying thing. I'm still pretty tired so I am going to say "Screw it, I ain't doin' it" My 2 sons have been awesome. The eldest who lives with me puts me to bed each night. He pulls me off the sofa and leads me down the hall. I go to the bathroom and change into my jammies and he puts me to bed and covers me up. He's my head injured son. He's washing my sheete for me right now.

My youngest son went and got groceries for me today. That's a big deal because I don't know of anyone who hates food shopping more than he.

Maybe so. I've raised them alone since they were 6 and 7. It was really rough. I went back to school the same year their father left and then worked casual nursing for 6 years before I got hired. So I was gone a lot. They were super fantastic boys. When my eldest got hurt and the other one hit 15 it became even harder. We just tied the knot tighter and hung on till the storms passed. They did. Now they are 28 and 29 and are wonderful caring good hearted young men.

Never accuse me of being proud of them or anything.

We are who we are because of who we were. It could have gone either way but I just got blessed with wonderful sons, a set of strict morales and no back down rules.

I am 5 foot 2 and both my boys have been 6 foot 4 since they were 14. I used to jump up on the coffee table to smack them up side the head when needed. Must have looked strange to see a youth go running out of the house trying to avoid a smuck up side the head.

la la la la la - fingers in my ears (never tell a social worker about smack up side the head) LOL

The application of the above behavior modification couldn't have been too bad  because it couldn't have been to hard to evade a Mom on the coffee table!! LOL

Oh Charline I do appreciate your  profession but social workers and I have had this conversations in 1990. Only twice. On their second visit I packed my sons clothes and said if I am not allowed to control my huge sons, you'd better take them now  because no son of mine will stand there and backtalk me while my hands are tied to "time out" Ever. I never heard from SS after  .I was dead serious. My son got their backsides slapped as needed. Didn't seem to harm me and certainly hasn't hurt them. Thet are wonderful young men.

I understand your position on this of course. I also worked in an ER for 4 years so I've seen awful abuse too. And of course you home should be a sanctuary, it should also be a place of comfort of definate rules and consequences.

We"ll never agree on this so we'll just have to agree to disagree and carry on laughing.

You will note the fingers in my ears at the start of my post!  Besides it is legal to paddle the bum and it was what I did until I saw real abuse plus learned other methods.  Most of the world still parents that way. Most of us were parented that way. I am not as hard lined as most of my colleges, but don't tell me anything you don't want a social worker to hear. Besides the statute of limitations ran out years ago!!!  LOL
