Question for the Post-Op Bandsters

Hi everyone. I have a bit of a difficult time with eating meat. I find that since my surgery, meat kinda grosses me out really. I have been getting my protein for other sources, ie. soy beans, edamame beans, lentils, etc. Just wondering if anyone else is finding that to be the case with them as well.

Hi Jeannette,

I don't recall seeing you here before, so welcome.  If you have been - well duhhh silly me.

I was banded Dec 2 and have not had my first fill yet.  I am basically wide open and can eat basically anything  - if I wanted to.  But I continue to follow the instructions and have been getting most of my protein via eggs, beans, lentils, fish and chicken (broken into tiny tiny bits).  I have avoided red meat only because I was not a fan of red meat before surgery.  I would only eat hamburger a few times a year because it always bothered my stomach and lower if you get my drift.  My family doctor thought the pains and diarrhea were caused by the drugs they give cattle since I also have some antibiotic allergies.

If you are not keen on meat now then just keep doing what you are doing and eat lots of lentils etc.  I found some lentil recipes on line and have been enjoying them quite a bit.  I had never used them before but I am really having fun trying some of these new things and knowing that they are surgery friendly.

Hope you stick around and read our posts and post your own experience.  It helps all of us to share the info.

Thanks Ann

I have been here before & was even at the Moncton meeting @ McGinnis Landing! I am a single mom with three kids who are involved in sports, so my life after work revolves around their activities. Not much time for blogging or surfing!

On Saturday I made curried lentils & have been eating that with rice & edamame beans. It is very good and I don't miss the meat whatsoever. I think I will buy some shrimp on the weekend & see how that goes.

Oh Hi!  I recognize your photo!  Silly me.  I wanted to chat with you at the meet and greet  but was at the wrong end of the table.  Hopefully we can get the chance at the next one.

I still eat meat because I'm not a big lentil person. the thought of tofu and stuff makes me queezy.  I void red meat cause its hard to chew and get through the band.  Chicken is really difficult as well.  So while I like it and eat it, I think about it before I choose it.  The band makes you think...alot of our eating before surgery was done unconsciously.  If only we thought about our decisions before, we might not be in this boat.!!!!!!  I think you will be find the way you are going...there are lots of vegetarians on the lapband board that will help you if you like.  I find the american's eat alot of beans and lentils and alot of mexican food.
