The answer on Medic Alert
I asked Dr Currie on the Lap Band forum about the necessity of wearing a Medic-Alert and here is his reply-
"All I can say is that I have never, in over 3000 cases, had a patient who had any harm done to them by any ER due to their surgical weight loss procedure. My wife has a band and she doesn't wear one,..."
I'm satisfied!

He is also the doctor who told me that he would not install a lap band in me because of my Barrett's esophagus. He felt that the acid reflux would be more severe and recommended that I have RNY instead. Now as you know, everyone, doctors included has an opinion. Dr. Beau felt that I would do well with the Lap Band and so far he is right. I have not had acid reflux once in over 8 weeks and I have, on his orders discontinued my Nexium.
I think I want a medic alert just to be on the safe side. I have other allergies and it would come in handy in my mind especially where we travel to foreign countries every year.
So I guess all in all it is a combination of personal preference, situation and the presence of allergies.

That's what I like about you Charline, you are thorough and you go the extra mile looking for information. I like that about you.
I guess in the end it is a little bit need, a little bit preference and a little bit vanity. Everyone will have a different opinion on it even the doctors. I sure would be interested to know what Dr. Beau and Dr. Savoie think about this topic.
Thanks for the info,
Ann
