Look at me !!!
In the last two weeks I went on two long walks. Long for me. One was 40 mins and the other 30 mins. I was quite pleased for a few reasons....
1. I didn't find I got out of breath
2. It didn't bother my lower back which walking has ALWAYS done.
3. I wanted to do the walks, whereas I never wanted to walk ANYWHERE before.
I'm happy for me. if the weather would just cooperate I could go more often, but lately it's either too cold or two miserable underfoot. I have a treadmill, but I find that boring.
Yeah for me !!!!

That is so great..... I am having some back problems (lower back/sciatica) that I havent had since before surgery - so I am at a loss why its acting up - has me totally freaked out! Even had to cancel my trip to Ontario cause I can not stand up straight- I thought I could shrug it off and exercise it out of me - NOT.
Now I am wondering if I shouldnt have had my RNY cause I do have arthritis and lower back problems but as the weight came off so went the problems- now I have been suffering for over a week and tylenol doesnt cut it -I need NSAIDS and my surgeon is dead against them even if I take a stomach protector.
Sorry now I am rambling and raining on your Wow - I am so happy that you have found yourself wanting to walk and exercise its a great feeling to be able to do this and you are working so hard. Yes spring cant come soon enough.
hugs

Deb. I have arthritis really bad too. I take ibuprofen 600mg 1 or 2 tabs up to 3 times a day for pain. I saw my family doctor last week and she said I could still take them after surgery just not as many and not as often. I don't know because everything I read says no nsaids ever. But you know my mother had an ulcer caused by asprin she took for arthritis and her doctor put her on bufferened asprin because it dissolves in the intestines and not the stomach. I am going to ask about that or putting my ibuprofens into a capsul so it dissolves in the intestines. Someone on one of the amercian bypass sites was talking about a transdermal anagelsic prescribed by her doctor she had for arthritis.
thanks maggie.
Ya I was a big taker of ibuprofen..... way past daily recommendations.
Are you having ds or rny done ? Just make sure to talk to Dr B or Dr S about what there feeling on it is..... because I have caught my doctor a lot post op on things she thought I would be fine taking and I cant.
Better to be safe than sorry.
I know there are lots of RNY'ers who take something to coat the stomach and take ibuprofen but there surgeons are ok with it - I have another message into mine as my family dr has just left her practice and I have a new Dr and she has not worked with any WLS patients.....
Tylenol does not do crap for my back thats for sure... I found out I could take Robaxacet Extra strength and thought since I dont take hardly any meds anymore maybe it would work on relaxing the spasm - nope might as well taken smarties- well guess that wouldnt be the wisest thing to do! LOL
ok done venting..... for now
