I've got a &*#& cold

I woke up this morning with a runny nose, cough and a sore throat. Wouldn't you just know it? I start my 2 week slimfast today too. I will take my last doses of cold fx and have to wait and see. Caroline said to take no natural medicines of any kind for the next two weeks, otherwise I'd go and get more cold fx. I will continue to take tylenol, drink water till it comes out of my ears  and hope for the best. Wish me luck

You can only do what you can do to treat your symptoms.  Go to bed early too.

There are other things you can do change your sheets every couple of days, open the window in your bedroom once a day for a while to air it out, change your toothbrush or dunk it in peroxide or alcohol every day, get some antiseptic wipes and clean all touchable surfaces like counters, doorknobs etc and wash your hand frequently.  I  know it sounds silly to do all those things after you have caught a cold but you never know, it may help. 

I will keep good thoughts for you for the next 2 weeks.

I too, caught a cold 2 weeks before surgery and I freaked.  But it was all good.  By the time the surgery came I was good.  You have to go for your final weigh in one week into the slimfast and when I went, the first thing Lise said to me is " do you have a cold?".  I said I DID, but its almost gone and sure enough it was gone by the next week.  Don't panic, just do what you can.  We'll all hope for the best for you.

Thank you both. I never thought of my toothbrush and sheets. I will do that as well as air out the bedroom. I have been running around for the past two days with a cloth soaked in vinegar wiping off phones, doorknobs, fridge handles cupboard door knobs and anything else I can think of my sons might have touched. Usually when I get a cold I get really hungry and I eat until I feel better. Now I can't do that. Hpe this darn thing is gone by the 6th . That's when I go back for reweigh. Wouldn't you just know it. When I finally can stop worrying about weight, I have to worry about a cold. Murphy's Law. Hopefully I will be like you Patsy and it will be gone.

I use vinegar because I have asthma and the smell of cleaners sets it off so I use vinegar for disinfecting and baking soda for most cleaning.

Aww.. hope you will feel better real soon. More rest and fluids will help.

are you allowed to take vitamins? If so, take Vitamin c  and zinc. I did that and the cold that started last Friday is almost gone!  I just have a little chest congestion left. Colds almost always turn into bronchitis for me, so I am still doing the boost the immune system thing. I swear by zinc and I am going to take it a couple of times per wee****il surgery or told to stop.

I will stick to tylenol. Caroline said at my pre adm to take NO natural or herbal medications and I have my list of things that I am allowed to take. There are a couple of vitamins that I can't take from now till surgery. Maybe RNY is different from lap band as far as what you are allowed to take pre op. I won't take the chance. Too close now to be postponed for taking something I should not have. If I do get postponed because I have a cold, I will stay on slimfast until I get called. That way I will be ready when she calls. She said if I were to be postponed, I should get a call within a month. So I won't sweat it too badly.

There must be a few cancellations. Caroline told me of a lady who got called last week due to a cancellation. So it happens.
