a fill under floroscope
This is for Patsy.
Could you please explain your fill under floroscopy? I watched one on You Tube and I am wondering how your experience compares. On the video they inserted the needle into the port while she was laying down the put the entire table up into the standing position before they got her to drink the barium. I have seen other fills on YouTube that are done completely standing up and completely lying down. So could you share what it was like for you please.
I have not been called for a fill and after speaking with Caroline at the clinic the other day have decided if they call me before I go south I will try to schedule for just after I get back. She and I both feel that trying to adjust to a fill while travelling is not a good idea. So - wide open as I am - I am mustering all the will power I can to maintain my current weight loss. Not easy since my relationship with Mr. Will Power has never been a good one.
Hope everyone is having a great day.

I was like the first example. They inject the port while lying down, I assume because it's easier to find. then they raise the table to a standing position. They inject the saline and watch it on a monitor. Dr. B doesn't do the fill, but he supervises it. Once they get the fill to where they think it should be ok, they get you to drink some barium and they watch it go down. If it goes down smoothly or freely they inject more or take out depending on how it's flowing. After they find the right spot they get you to drink water to make sure that goes down ok. It doesn't take very long and I have to say I liked the fluro cause it gave me a sense that they knew exactly the status of my band and the fill. To me, without the fluro it would be a guessing game. But it works that way too obviously cause not everyone gets the fluro. He did tell me that my next few would be under fluro because when he tried to access my port at first he had a hard time which is why he then took me over to fluro. I'm quite happy with that. If they call me for a fill, I will go even though I don't think I need one, because I need to find out the status of the fill. I'm not getting stuck anymore but I still find it hurts sometimes when I eat. I think I'm chewing ok but for some reason it can hurt. not always but sometimes. Felix is a funny fellow. Very moody, I'd say. But he does his job.
Hope this helps. Patsy

Thanks Patsy, Good info. I was just curious and so I decided to go to the source. I am glad you are not gettng stuck anymore. As I said before I am wide open - I could eat whatever you put in front of me but I am still hanging around with Will Power, but I am sure that I won't be able to for very much longer. Hopefully after I return from the cruise I will be able to kick Ol' Will to the curb and let She Who Must Be Obeyed take over.
Thanks again,
Ann

Ok I want to go away on a trip with the two of you cause you always make me smile and laugh out loud!
Ok I never named my pouch now I feel left out - actually I called it many obscene names my husband didnt even know I knew..... when I was first post op and how sick I was - but now that we are on better terms maybe I should name it and give it recognition for its role in my success on the scale.
hmmmmm - the RNY board has a rubber chicken they are sending around to people they call Ronny- (RNY) but mine is definitely female - very moody and not decisive......... any suggestions.....
Ok so where will we go on our trip ? Anyone want to go to OH's event in Chicago in June the OH events are supposed to be really motivating and shopping in Chicago is supposed to be wicked...... any takers!

I have had two fills with Dr. Beausoleil & both times he had me lie on the table with a pillow under my back. He then locates the port by feeling around for it, inserts the needle, pushes the saline in. He then gets me to sit up still accessed, take a sip of water. If the water goes down smoothly without a burp or blocking sensation, he removes the syringe puts a bandaid, smiles and says, That's it for today." I thank him, get up and go; takes less than 10 minutes.
Hi Anne, I have had fills done with and without the Floroscopy, It depends on the DR. that is doing the fill, sometimes it is done standing up and sometimes lying down it simply depends on the doctor doing it and sometimes they will ask you which way for Floro you perfer, personally myself I rather standing up. If it is simply done in DR. B's office than of course you have to lie down and in each case sit up to drink your liquid. Sherry
