dr. s and dr. b?

Are some of you on both Dr. B's and Dr. S' list just in case?  I was wondering about that to have a back up plan...  or am I being too paranoid?

I don't really see the point at your stage to go on Dr. B's list. I am on both lists because my referral was sent to Dr. B two years ago. Dr. B has a 5 year wait list. When I called to see where I was on the list in Sept, I still hhad a 3 year wait to ave my consult.

I am positive that you will get surgery way before with Dr. S than Dr. B

I have been on Dr. B's list since 2006 and when I called awhile back they told me that my number on the list was in the Thousands and Dr. B was only in the 300's so you can only imagine how long of a wait there still is.  It was frustrating to hear that so I had a second referral sent to Dr Savoie and they told me that I will probably get my call some time in the next fw months for a consult and may even have surgery sometime this year which is great by me weither it is in a few months or towards the end of this year.  I am pumped for a new me.

I have a theory :)
With 3 new doctors in the Atlantic provinces doing surgery, it does not make sense that Dr. B's list is still so long.....unless...people have been leaving their names on Dr. B's list while going to the other's for consults...just in case. 

I actually know of 3 people who have seen other doctors...1 Dr. S and 2 one of the Drs in Halifax and are on their lists, but are keeping their place on Dr. B's list .  I can see why they are doing it of course, and I am not sure I wouldn't do the same thing, especially when you have waited on Dr. B’s list for 2, 3 ,4, or 5 years. But it makes it hard for anyone waiting on Dr. B's list and being in the “thousands"

I suspect in the next 6-12 months Dr. B's list will decrease dramatically once the new surgeons start doing the surgeries and the "double- dippers" (hehehe) are done and are off all the lists

I have posted several times that I don't believe Dr B's list is as long as his office thinks it is, for just that reason.  That prompts me to remind the double listers to de-list themselves with the "other" surgeon after they has a surgery date.  I think that there is considerable overlap and it is going to become an increasing problem for the doctors. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually co-ordinate or combine their lists. With today's computer technologies it would be a snap to have both doctors using one list (likely with the initial procedure preference designating some patients for one doctor or the other). For now some of use can enjoy being double listed!

Yeah, yu are right. When I last called to see where I was on the list one timeI was so far away that I groaned. natalie said that the list was moving real fast because patients were seeing other doctors or going self pay and were not calling to take their names off Dr. B.'s list. When she called the people on the list, then they would say they were already done or had changed their minds. So chin up, the list grows smaller. :)

With medicare now covering the cost of Lap Band, Dr. B is performing more & more surgeries. Can do almost 3 bands in the time it takes to do one gastric bypass. That in itself, is speeding things up as well. The wait is long, but worth it in the end. You can also look at it as an opportunity to start living a healthier life in preparation for surgery. Doing so makes the transition to post-op life that much easier.
