I read somewhere in the past few days about one of you quitting smoking for the surgery but I cannot remember who it was. Please tell me how you're doing it because I am struggling so bad with it. My all day info session is Tuesday and I'm sure they're going to want to hear that I've quit but the truth is....I just can't seem to conquer it. I'm down from over a pack a day to around 10 but I just can't seem to go the distance. I am on Champix and have been since Dec 4th but it doesn't seem to help at all. Help!!!
Thanks

Yeah, Mona gray was a smoker before her surgery. She was trying to quit. I never heard if she was successful or not. I think she was having a hard time with it too. When I quit smoking after 31 years, I could not have done it without NICODERM patches. I tried many things for many years but the only thing that did it for me was nicoderm ( not anything else) and knitting 3 full size blankets out of 8 inch square dishcloths.  Kept my hands busy. Good luck.

I also used the Nicoderm Patch and worked great for me. I smoked for 20yrs and quit for 8 now. You can do it.

Thats ashame that the Champix is not working for you.  I used Champix for six weeks and have been smoke free since June 2008.  Did you try to stop smoking by day 7 like they recommend?

I chose my quit date on day 12 and I made it 1 1/2 days. Then I caved. Congratulations on quitting. I don't really have a choice if I'm gong to have the surgery  but I just can't seem to conquer it. I'll keep trying of course and hopefully I'll have mastered it by the 3 week pre-op tests. If I end up getting postponed just because I have no willpower, I will never forgive myself. I have tried the patch and the inhaler in the past and they did not work either. I know it's all a mindset but I just can't seem to get my mind set....

Don't be too hard on yourself, you are making progress.  Going from a pack a day to 10 is no small feat.  Keep up the good work!!!!!

Oh my , don't feel bad because you are having a hard time. It isn't just willpower, it's an addiction. A really hard one to break. I found it worse after a meal or when I was having coffee or when I was watching my favorite shows. I bought some knitting needles and although the only thing I can knit is a scarf, I did that. I knitted and knitted and kept my hands so busy. It worked. I quit in March 2004 and have not had one since. I smoked since 1971. I did stop when I was pregnant because cigarettes made me feel stomach sick. . I started back up when my kids were a little older. What a friggen waste of money. Oh my. I smoked a pack a day. I wish I could go back and quit sonner.
