What a great first Moncton Meeting!!!!  Michelle did a great job pulling us together and I want to thank her so much for that.  I had a great time, met some folks I have been dying to meet, met some folks who are not on this forum and had a great chance to share with people.  I didn't get a chance to chat with everyone but Michelle wants to do it again and I sure would love to do it again too in the hopes of having a chance to talk to everyone.

A concern was raised after some people left about meeting in a restaurant.  As far as I am concerned it doesn't matter to me.  I have to get out there and live and get used to eating out and making wise choices.  I have to be honest with myself and honest about being banded.  I will always have to diet and watch my portion sizes and that is something I was well aware of when I decided to get the band and so I am fine with meeting in a restaurant.  But if others would like to meet in a place that perhaps costs money and then chip in a few bucks rather than purchase a meal at a restaurant, I am willing to go there as well.  I liked that McGinnis Landing was central and I knew where it was and didn't have to worry about getting lost.  But if people are too tempted by food at a restaurant, I am willing to meet just about anywhere.

We were sorry to see Charline W. have to leave early.  Hope your class went well and you got your certification.

I hope once the weather improves to join folks at a Fredericton meeting.  I have family in the New Maryland area and I could make a day of it.

All in all it was a great evening and I am looking forward to doing it again.

Thanks again Michelle, job well done - oh and I am doing my homework - thinking about a SMART goal and will put it in place here later today or tomorrow.  Great idea.

I really wish I could have gone and met everyone but I've been on the couch sick for 4 days ( sinus, throat, chest and ear infection I think) ...and I definately don't want any of you to catch it. I am really hoping I can make the one in Feb though and since I live in Oromocto, it will be a much shorter drive too. I'm glad you all had fun.

Thank you everyone that came!  Especially those who did drive a distance (Ann and both Charlines).

We were a nice variety with some who have had surgery, some that are waiting and some supporters!  We did a round of introductions and spent just a few minutes going over the importance of making "SMART" goals.  Then we focused on the real reason to gather - share and support.

Some ate, some didn't - please don't feel you have to eat just because we are in a restaurant.  We may look into other types of meeting places, especially in the warmer weather.

Thanks to all who shared tips ... all the pre-ops will be buying GasX ... answered questions, asked questions etc.  Ann was nice enough to show her favorite protein shake maker plus her and Charline brought some great books to lend.

Since there was interest in meeting again we are planning for Feb 21st but a bit earlier in the day for anyone traveling ... details to come.

Happy to put things together,

Michelle

It just hit me Feb 21st!!!! Woo hoo!!!!  I should be able to make it.  We don't leave on our trip until the 23rd.  That way I can use the meeting to get lots of support for the challenges I will face on the cruise.... all that food...

Actually I did great the last time.  I came off the ship weighing exactly what I weighed when I went on so I think I can at least pull that off again.  Shoot I may even lose this time; wouldn't that be neat.

I am so looking forward to the next meeting.  See you then.
Ann

Oh and if I can help with anything let me know.  I would be pleased to help in any way I can.

i was going to reply to you in French then realized that I speak French better that I spell in French at the end of the day!!    I was going to say, that you can start up a French group if you want to.  Just post an invitation on here and see who is interested! That is how the other groups started.

Well my work day is done and I am going home! Talk to you all tonight!!

The next proposed meeting dates are:

Sat Feb 7th - Fredericton (in Mactaquac)

Sat Feb 21st - Moncton

To my knowledge there are no french groups but since you have had your surgery maybe check with the nurse if there is a Dr B post-op group meeting in french still going on as there used to be.

We started these "Maritime WLS Support" group meetings ourselves and you are certainly welcome to come to either ... or both!  I would imagine we have some bilingual people (I can order food in french but not discuss anything medical, lol).

Otherwise feel free to post a message and start a french group as there may be a need there too!

Take care and hope to meet you.  Often there are car pooling options for the meetings so keep watch.
