Looking forward to eating to live.

For the past 10 years my mind is always on food. Like now, for example, for lunch I had 2 oz tuna a tablespoon of mayo, wrapped it all in a lettus leaf. So I am not hungry. But all morning I have had bread on my mind. I try not to eat too much bread because it is fairly high in calories. My mind seems to be always on food. I am hoping once I have wls, that will eventually change and my mind will be preoccupied with other things. Some people say they eat to live after wls instead of living to eat. Anybody else feel like that?

I don't know how I am going to feel post-op but right now I struggle every day. Weekends are the hardest. I do well all day at work. Evenings are not so good unless I have out of the house activities. As for as post-op, I don't expect miracles. I  know I will struggle with head hunger for a while, at least until I feel restriction. I will want to eat more than I am able to for a while. I will have to deal with the issues that drive me to over eat. I do know from experience that I will do better when I am able to exercise, because exercise cuts my hunger significantly.

Hiya Maggie:

Oh how I would love to "eat to live". Unfortunately, I am not one of the people this happened to. I have seen people posting that they don't feel like eating, have problems getting even 1200 calories in, etc. but that certainly wasn't my experience. I wasn't going to answer this as I didn't want to discourage you in any way. For me, personally, I am a food addict and I will be every single day of my life.

Having said that, I did lose 100 lbs in a year so even if I was still thinking about food, the band helped me get past it.

Good luck with your surgery!

I am on a couple of other sites as well as this one.  Someone on another said that she don't care that much for food anymore and was saddened by it. She said she could take it or leave it.
Imagine. I am so hoping that happens to me.

Right now, I can't imagine going 10 minutes not thinking about food. Not that I want to eat every 10 minutes but I am thinking about what I will cook for supper today or even what I will cook for supper 3 days from now.

I do remember when I was thin and my life did not revolve around food and even not remembering to take something out for supper and getting home from work and trying to defrost something to cook. lol  That hasn't happened in the past 12 years.

Like Krista, I am definitely an addict. I don't think of food all the time. I usually don't at work; unless I know there is a goodie somewhere. Then it's like a bullhorn in my head. My biggest problem is with sweets....speaking of which, I think there is some choc.......no, no, no! Just kidding! LOL

I wouldn't say that I think about food all the time.  I rarely even know what I am going to make for supper until late afternoon.  lol  Turn on General Hospital and put supper together during the commercials to be ready for 5!

When I used to see a nutritionist they kept saying to eat more often to increase my metabolism as I was not eatting enough.  Sometimes I would go most of the day on a few cookies until we sat down for supper.  The meals I make for the family are generally healthy - lean meats, lots of veggies (when my youngest went to the cottage with my mom he asked her to have broccoli, dip and salad in the fridge, lol), stirfrys, soups etc.  Of course from not eating all day I would then put away lots when I did eat.  Plus I am a "proximity" eater.  So if there are cookies, treats, chips etc in the house I would eat them (hubby whines I bit cause I stopped buying them, too bad, so sad, lol) ... plus my favorite - cheese - I could likely live off cheese!

So I am looking forward to my DS and being able to eat my cheese, seafood, chunks of meat .... bacon yum.  We already do the whole grain options (kids even prefer the whole brown rice) but I often will skip the carb portion by cooking the pasta, rice or potatoes separate and just putting it on the family's plates or soups.

It will all come down to choices.  I am looking forward to my choices and having a better life.

Take care,

M

If you don't eat regularly, how are you going to get enough food in for the DS life style?
