Does everyone having WLS experience Hairloss?

Hi,

I had alot of hair loss, I had a DS by the way.   I was doing everything right...and was totally eating my vits and meeting my protein goals.

But...I did loose a ton of hair.  It started to fall out about 3 to 4 momths.  And it was a 3 to 4 month period before I feel it was starting to thicken back up.  My hair is really thick by the way.

I never had anyone pick up on it.  I even asked the hairdresser who "did" me during that time..who was not my normal one, and she said it did NOT seem especially thin but was shedding quite a bit.  I believe this was because it is just so darn thick in the first place.

So....if you have a DS...as far as I can see, it is unavoidable, so you might want to consider your hair style for the first 6 months to pass this time with the less stress on your mind.  Just plan for it..and go with it.  But at the same time, make sure you are taking all you are supposed to.

Any hair loss for the rest of you so far?

Hair loss is a worry of mine, since my hair is already thin. I guess if it is unavoidable I will just go with it. Do you find your hair has come back to what it was before?

I read recently that biotin (hope I am spelling that right) is good to prevent hair loss. It is recommended that you start taking it pro-op. I think I read it in Deb's post.

I have diabetes and I am hoping wls will help cure it. If having wls means I will lose my hair, so be it. Better to lose my hair than my eyesight or my legs. Everything in perspective, it is just hair.

I took the attitude "its just hair" and I fully expected to lose some, as every other DS seemed to be.   Just be ready for it folks.  I think those with really long hair seem to show the most, maybe as it hangs.  Where shorter hair sorta can be pumped up a bit .. if that makes sense.

If you plan on it..I think it will be easier to handle

Hey maybe we can bring back the "afro", or the "Ijust stuck my finger in a light socket" . look and nobody will notice the loss. LOL  If it gets too bad I suppose we may be able to find a wig. How long did your hair loss last before it started to grow back?

I would say it lasted 3 to 4 months...but my face was changing daily...so people noticed that more then my hair.
