Book review!

Have you read any books on WLS?  Yes, I said books; they still print them! LOL  Seriously, if you have read books on "our" topic, do you recommend them or not?

I have 4 books I bought on Amazon.ca. One is a recipe book and I have only looked it over. I really like "Emotional First Aid for after WLS".  I like it because it talks about the emotional consequences of WLS.  So many things I have read talk about the benefit of WLS and the risks of the surgery itself. This book offers practical ideas for for coping with the emotional side effects. I can really see myself reading and re-reading individual chapters as I encounter issues. I think it will be a great source of support.
I will post the exact title and authors, after I drag my big butt off this lazy-boy!!

Great idea Charline!  I have read 2 books that I would highly recommend to anyone considering lap band surgery.  The first one I read was Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Robert W. Sewell MD. F.A.C.S.  It covers the topic from an doctor's point of view and it covers all aspects of the process.  I read and re-read some of the chapters.  Some chapters were not so relavent to Canadians/Maritimers  but over all it was a very thorough book.

The second book I read was Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding by Jessie H. Ahroni, Ph.D., A.R.N.P.  This book is an easy quick read, not as detailed as the book above mentioned but still very informative and helpful.  I would also recommend this book.

I love to read.  I just purchased a couple of cookbooks for weight loss patients that I haven't had the chance to do much with but I hope to try a lentil soup this weekend from one of them.  I will let you know more about those 2 books later.

I also purchased but did not read Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies.  I will bring these books to the meet and greet on Saturday and if anyone is interested in borrowing them they are more than welcome to do so.

I am really interested in getting the book you mentioned.  I might scoot into Chapters after the meet up and pick it up if they have it in stock.  It sounds like something I would be interested in now that I have "gone and done it" so to speak.

Thanks again for posting this topic.
Ann

I will bring my books  (if I am able to go) to the meet & greet too. I am also willing to lend out my books. I am going to suggest that we include an addressed label (come book mark), to make returning the books easier.  Your post has inspired me to go find my books and post a proper bibliography. (I hated doing the bibliographies in university).

Wouldn't you know, my favorite book is among the missing!
"Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" Patt Levine & Michele Bontempo-Sara (140 recipes and advise from a nutritionist, advise on stocking your pantry, and cooking tips)

"Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss surgery"  Margaret M. Furtado, MS, RD, LDN (intro includes healthy eating guidelines for all WLS)

"It Ain't Over 'til the Thin Lady Sings" Michelle Ritchie, CSAC, ICBCM (everything from preparing for surgery to overcoming emotional eating and intimacy after weight loss)

"Macroscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding" Jessie H. Ahroni, PhD, ARNP(information similar to the book Dr B gave us but the information is in greater detail- still not as in depth as I would have liked. Good as a quick reference.)

I have the Eating Well and the Recipes for Life After and although I am not interested in lending those I will bring them so others can look them over and decide if they would consider purchasing.

Oh and I will try to remember to bring a blender bottle so everyone can see it and consider it for purchase.  I love mine.  I still use them with a Protein drink I purchased and I might bring the boxes of that to show people too and details on where to buy and cost.  It sort of looks like we will have a show and tell - cool.
