WOOT!! WOOT!! I went up for my consent signing today and saw Dr. B. Lordy, that man is easy on the eyeballs. He said  I can have the surgery  in a couple of months. I later was talking to Rinnette and she said more like 3 or 4 months. I DON'T  CARE. I just know that this time next year I will no longer be diabetic or morbidly obese.   Now got to keep my weight off. I made my needed weight this morning. Just. WHEW!!  I am so happy. Doing the million dollar dance right now. Will do better from now on. Rinette also said I could use Slimfast or Boost too. I am so happy. OMG

Oh my gosh Maggie, I am so happy for you!!!!!  The time will fly really it will.  I thought it would take forever but before you knew it I was on the Optifast and headed to the OR.  Just focus on the food one meal at a time.  Remember you are taking care of yourself the way you would take care of a child.  Only the best in attention, love (for self), nurturing, food, fluids etc nothing but the best for your best friend - YOU.  This time is special, you now have a chance to start living as if you were already banded.  Drink only before and an hour after meals but not with your meals.  Eat smaller portions, chew chew chew and pretend you already have your band.  That is what I did and it was not such a shock to the system to finally be banded.  I am just so happy for you.  And remember there may be a cancellation so you have to be ready for any eventuality.    Yay for you!!!!

Deb, what kind of suppliments are you talking about? Did I miss something? I am having RNY. I had a few reasons for this. Nothing I want to talk about but just some issues with the band. I am so happy. Deb, I don't mind giving up sweets or ice cream  but I do love bread and pasta. Are you able to eat bread and pasta?

Thank you Charlene and Ann. You can guess how excited I am. And you are right, there may be a cancellation so I'd better be prepared. Stick to my diet better because you never know.:)

Dr. B is drop dead georgeous but I qiuckly saw the little gold band.  Instantly I thought " What a loss" Another one slips away. LOL

..Re the gorgeous Dr B being a loss- his personality has thus far left me cold.  I have a feeling that I am not his favorite type of personality (the pushy broad type)LOL That's OK, I want his surgical skills, not to marry him! Though a weekend tryst would get my attention. LOL I'm such a little devil!

Wow Maggie

I didnt know that Dr B did RNY ? Just thought he did lapband - wow. Is this something new ?

Well when you get your bloods done have your famly doctor go over them are you  low normal on anything- iron  - I would start taking iron supplements. You can become anemic so quick- talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take anything as I am not a doctor but as someone else mentioned start looking after yourself and cut back on your food and chew your brains out!

I learned this after my surgery but so many tell me they started their biotin supplements before surgery and they dont think they lost as much hair as some of us have. Because the biotin was already in their system .

I would make sure I am high on vitamin C to keep your immune system up and the same with a multi vitamins and calcium chews with added vitamin D .....

Each surgeon makes his own recommendations for post op supplements but many people get a jump start by beginning while they are waiting - talk with the clinic and see what they can tell you.

A cancellation bumped me up by over a week so I was not fully prepared when they called- so I just wish looking back while I was so focussed on detoxing from junk food and diet soda I could have been doing my self a favour and also taking suppliments before hand so I could have gone into surgery stronger.

Go on the RNY main board and toss out the question and you will see all sorts of things people did to get ready....... although your tastes will change - take the time now to find a good protein drink you wont feel like searching for one right after surgery and then is when your smell and taste are acting up..............

I finally found the ones I like at the place in Charlottetown and they send samples- my fav is strawberry kiwi and creamsicle orange.

The better you go into this surgery the better recovery you will have. Make sure the doctor is very clear if you are on any medications which ones are ok to do after surgery and if some are not what is his suggestion. Also I had to stop my anti-inflammatories before surgery so I did but with the cancellation and my surgery bumped up - it wasnt enough time and I knew not the difference- but in the hospital they gave me my first heparin shot for blood clots and I started to bleed out from my bowels as I still had the drug in my system and didnt need a blood thinner just coming off anti inflammatories- It was very serious and I was very sick .

I say this not to scare you but to pass on anything that I can so that you dont experience what complications I did.

Maggie - You can reach me at
[email protected] if you have any questions I can help you with.

Will you be going to the meeting on the 17th in Moncton ? I am planning on coming up from halifax as long as the weather is good and it is supposed to be

Congrats again

hugs

I know Whitney and I am so excited.  Soon I will be reading the same posts from you. I'm sure you will get in to see Dr. S in the near future. Waiting is the worst part. It's the uncertainity that kills you. It's just such a ;ong drive to Bathurst. I do wish you wll in this new year with your weight loss goals.

Deb, Dr.B. has been doing RNY in Moncton since 2002. He said he has done 200 RNY's with a mortality rate of 2%. He said 3 people has died from complications of RNY. He does more lap band now because less complications (0% mortality rate) and the band is now covered by N.B. medicare so there is no reason to undergo the RNY.

What is biotin and where does one get it? This suppliment thing is totally new to me. I really don't want to lose my hair if I can take something to prevent it. Mind you in the big scheme of thing, I would gladly sacrifice my hair for weight loss to be rid of diabetes. Losing hair is preferable to losing one's eyesight or limbs.

No, unfortunately I will not be attending the meeting on the 17th . I have a really bad back and cannot drive that far. One of my sons takes me to Moncton and waits for me when I need to go there. The drive is murder on my back. I will get there one of these meetings. I am anxious to meet some of the ladies here on this site. They all seem so nice,
