What is the most important role of a DS support person?

This is really something that you DSer Wannabe's need to ensure your support person understands.  YOU NEED TO EAT LOTS OF FOOD, even when you don't feel like it.

I am thinking of this today as I am 2.5 years out and I would be lost without my husband...and want to highlight some points of support.

....frying me eggs on Saturday mornings as I sleep in and he knows I can not miss a meal.
.....Calling out from the kitchen every time he goes by it to see if I want something to eat...peanuts, yogurt, pudding, boiled egg...or the left overs from supper
.....ensuring there are peanuts and almonds in the house at all times and making sure there are other foods I can graze on...shrimp, cheddar, or whatever
.....pulling into McDonalds when we are shopping so I eat a burger...even when he is not hungry and has no intention of eating
....making hundreds of latte's over the course of the month, when ever he goes by the kitchen
....going into restaurants and giving me the meat off his meal as well, if there is any chance I have space to eat it (and  also helping by eating any non protein parts of my meal :) )

I know it  might not seem like a lot, but if you are thinking DS...it helps so very much to make sure your support persons really really get it.  So they are searching for protein without them evening realising.

I do eat really well but the support that I get for my DS from my Husband and family is really the reason behind my success.  I am reminded of this all the time.  And I also know that others who think they understand my DS...still just don't get it.  And who can blame them...it is hard to get a mindset of "food is my medicine, and I don't count calories" , so take the time to ensure you main support people...do get it.

Take Care,
C

ps.  If you are thinking DS, and you have a support person who wants to "get it, but is pretty worried" then maybe we can talk at the Feb meet up in Fredericton.  I will be there.  And if possible and my hubby is in the same country...will drag him along.

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.

I have not set a date yet. We used to meet on the first Tuesday of the month. but then everyone wanted to switch to a Saturday- which we did in December. I posted twice asking for feedback on a January meeting and no one answered, so I have not organized one for January. I don't have anything booked for February (though I am hoping to have surgery in February). I thought that I would ask CLawrence when she wants to meet. I have to check a calendar to see how early in the month the first Saturday is.
