More delays for the lapband!!!!!!!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! I called Dr S's office today and reached his voicemail once again.  They are probably so sick of the calls!  I went to my family dr today and got some disturbing news.  He said the surgeon I was asked to see before the lap band was done said I would probably NOT be a candidate for by pass surgery given what I go through right now with my stomach.  My family dr was furious that the surgeon sent that letter to Dr Savoie because I am NOT having by pass surgery!!! My family dr said he may have to call him to correct the info in the letter.  So now I have to be referred to a gastroenterologist and fortunately the endocrinologist had anticipated that and already made my appt for Feb 2!  What a mess!!!  The delays on Dr S's side are beneficial to me while I sort this all out with the drs involved.  My family dr is being so supportive and he's determined to get me that surgery and is extremely convinced that if Dr McGibbon is supporting it, then it's a done deal!  I just have to get these drs all coordinated! If I can just get in touch with Dr. S's office to see where he stands right now!!!!  So we all continue with our "hurry up and wait game"!

It is really fustrating, what waiters go through while waiting. Doyou have stomach issues? Would bypass surgery make it worse? Have you considered lapband? Would that be better for you? Don't mean to be nosey but you sound so upset.

Hi Maggie.....I am scheduled to have lapband.  The problem with my stomach is that bile is collecting at the bottom so I'm having bile (not acid) reflux and I just read on the internet that one of the cures for bile reflux is a procedure called RNY....so go figure.  Goes to show what the stupid surgeon knows!  Gastric by pass is not recommended but I haven't found out anything about lapband. My family dr said lapband would help the situation since the bile collects there due to weight issues.  So if I lose the weight, the bile flows through normally and all is well with the world! I don't think Dr S does RNY so I hope lapband will also work to cure the problem!! Fingers and toes crossed!!!! Positive side is that we are all becoming quite versed in the medical field, in some cases more than the medical field itself!!!!

I am a nurse but bariatric is a new field of study since I was in training. Be carefulof what you readon the intetrnet. You don't know who wrote it and what their credentials are. I have found many things on the net that are absolutely not true or are only half truths. I would trust my surgeon over anything I had read on the net. It is he who has your best intrests in mind and he who is responsible for your surgical outcome.  Dr.B.told me to talk to people who had the different surgeries and not to read tons of stuff on the net. He is the one who I am placing my life in his hands so I'd better trust him to do the best for me or find another surgeon to do the surgery.  I think Dr. S does lapband too.

I agree that one has to be careful about what one reads on the net. I always look at the source of the information- is it a blog or the Harvard University?  Is it a month or a decade old?
I disagree with Dr B- I believe in doing all the research you want to. I say want to because some people freak out over the risks, even if it is very low and others, like me, want all the facts.

Hi Maggie...what I read on the internet coincides with what my family dr told me.  The surgeon who wrote the letter to Dr Savoie did not have all the facts and my history and assumed I was having gastric by pass and made his conclusions based on tnat.  And he was wrong.  I just hope that Dr Savoie interprets the letter the way my family dr did and all will be well.  It's just a matter now of getting in touch with Dr S.  I do trust him and do trust the surgeon who performed the endoscopy...it's just the surgeon who did the scope didn't arm  himself with all the facts and didn't even bother to check the original referral from my own GP. I'm sorry but I no longer believe that doctors are the know all and end all! They are subject to human error as well!  But I'm confident that my GP, the endocrinologist and Dr S will have a meeting of the minds!

Casey, hopefully all will turn out right in the end. It is fustrating. The waiting is mind numbing. After awhile it is all that you think about. It consumes every waking thought. Always there in the back of your mind. In your case I am sure they will all come to the right conclusin on your lap band and you will get it quickly. Maybe it will even cure the stomach problem. Lots of luck. Fingers crossed it will be soon and everyone will be on the same track. :)
