Hi Mona

I have a magic bullet too.

When I was on the optifast I used 1 or two icecubes in the bullet - I got very sick ( both ends) off of optifast so to help a lil with the taste I found it needed to be ice ice cold so I used chilled water and the cubes. I also was told by someone to use a lil crystal light to flavor - for example I used a raspberry in my chocolate and it was much more tolerable.

I dont use ice now for protein shakes I use frozen fruit for extra fibre and milk to mix.

I love my bullet!

Good luck with everything.

I would think it would be fine, but I would reduce the amount of water by the amount of ice.

Mona

I just had issues with nausea and diarrea (sp ?) - it could be I was already not feeling that great when they told me they had bumped up my surgery by a week -

So I was totally freaking about new flights what to do with my daughter  etc etc - so I was only on it for a week not two like my surgeon usually wants but he said I would be ok cause I had already lost 20 lbs in the couple months leading to surgery -

I did feel weak and dizzy a lot on the Optifast but its not everyones experience and the girl I roomed with during surgery had no issues with it and it made her constipated- so I think a lot of mine was nerves.

You will do fine and if you have problems give the surgeons office a call for suggestions.

Good luck

Deb

By all means the colder the better.  I used chilled water and then I put at least 3 cubes in it and let is set for a little while so that the water was as cold as possible.  I would then take one of the cubes out and make sure the amount of water was just above the 300 ml level allowing for the cubes since often some of the cubes were still in the bottom of my cup when I finished the shake.  So be careful not to reduce the amount of water too much.  As long as the water was cold cold cold I had no problem with the taste to speak of.  Actually I liked it a little thinner than the 300 mls of water would make it because I used a Blender Bottle with a little round wire wisk in it to mix the shake and it thickened it too much for my taste.  The amount of water used does not change the calorie content of the shake so I think you can play around with that until you get the consistancy you prefer.

It did not nauseate me but it did constipate me quite badly and so if you have a problem by day 3 at the latest then I would check with the dieticia first but start adding Benefiber or FiberSure to each one of your shakes.  It does not change the consistancy or flavour of the shake.  Optifast has no dietary fiber content and if you are accustomed to a degree of fiber in your diet this might be a problem.

I did have one day early on where I was a little lightheaded but it did not last.  I had not had enough water that day and I think I was dehydrated.  At first the taste was not so great and I downed it in about 2 or 3 swigs but as time went on I actually came to enjoy it as long as it was very cold.  I also made very sure that I was drinking enough water between shakes.  Keep your water intake up since I found the shakes high in sodium and I was sodium sensitive at the time.  So I tried to drink at least 64 ounces of water above and beyond the shakes.

I have to say, it was not the easiest part of the process but you can do it if you put you mind to it and take it one shake at a time, one day at a time.  You have to keep in mind the purpose is to shrink your liver to make the surgery easier for the doctor to perform and to make sure you liver is not compromised by the surgery in any way.

Hope this helps you.  Congrats on starting this step of the process.

Hi Ann, I was thinking of you  & wondering how you were making out . I haven't seen any posts lately.  What stage of eating are you on now ?  Are  you losing much weight so far  ?  Do you know when you go for your first fill ?   I know this sounds like twenty questions . I am interested in your journey  & wish you well.  Happy New YEar.
