Fredericton Support Group

If we are going to meet in early January, we have to decide when and where.  How does January 10th sound?  I am going to try to book the community room at the Superstore. Do we want to do a nutrition class, store tour, or cooking class?  If we can choose one of these options or opt not to do any of them, I can contact the nutritionist/ the store. Give me some feed back folks so I can plan to meet as many of you needs/ wishes as possible.  To those of you new to this site, everyone is welcome to join us. We are a social support group of both pre-op (waiters as I call us) and post-op (bandsters, DS'ers and by-passers). It is great to get together with people with similar hopes and histories.

I can't join in Jan, but will be there in spirit!  These get togethers are great!  I will miss you all.

We will miss you too C.  So far you are the only reply, so perhaps people are "peopled" out and don't want a January meeting. Perhaps a later date would be better and elicit more responses.

Hi Charlene,
maybe it is just so soon after Christmas....I don't know what is the right solution or fit.

All the WLS meetings I ever went to were in Restaurants........so the meeting at the superstore might be interesting...

For me, I am keen for the meet up as I like to meet folks, where?  Me, personally I don't care.  But when I think about it, I am not so sure your idea on the food related visits being overly useful for us DSers....as my eating habits or healthy choice needs (steaks, cheese, burgers, icecream etc)  are worlds away from the other surgeries needs.    Funny really.....I just am thinking maybe We could have a DSer Food focus some day...but I don't think the Bandsters would want to attend as most of my most important foods are taboo for any normal calorie counting diet.

But...don't get me wrong...I love to get together to share experiences with the people...that is the most important thing.  We already tried restaurant visits....which for me were fantastic as I like to eat about every 3 hours...and I know this is not a great plan for others struggling with their food choices. I totally understand it would be tricky.

Charlene suggests a grocery store outing...but no real enthusim jumping up here it seems from others?...

so, what is the best solution?
hmmmmmmmmmm?  Tell us folks?  Charlene is totally wonderful for putting together something to meet the needs of our group......what do you want to do?

Catherine

I know what you are saying!  I like the restaurant idea too, but that doesn't work well for some and with a couple of new bandsters, it isn't a good option. The classes and tour are just an attempt to give some focus to the group, but perhaps that isn't a good idea given our varied needs. I am just offering options. If you (as in all of us, not you Catherine) don't like the idea, that's fine. I just want feedback., opinions, suggestions, etc. so the group will continue to be i nteresting and grow.
My fav part is the getting together and if that is all we do, I'm happy.
Perhaps we should pick a Saturday later in January and just book the community room at the Superstore. If I don't get a surgery date, we could meet at my shack! LOL

Sorry, thought I had responded previously, but it could have been during a PM with someone.

During the winter months my travelling will be greatly determined by the weather.  With that being said, I am not interested in the long drive on possibly yucky roads to listen to a dietition or even take a cooking class.  I have been under the care of a dietition before and done Weigh****chers etc so know the info (practising faithfully is another story) and I actually teach cooking classes at some of my Tupperware parties.

I love to get together and socialize.  More apt to travel the distance though when C is in town so the pj party afterwards is more fun, lol.

Plus as C mentioned above, there is a huge difference in the eating between the different procedures (especially lapband and DS).

If anyone is around Moncton area (or even passing through) feel free to connect with me to "socialize"!

so....I don't think we are really helping Charlene here to organise.  She wants/needs some ideas.  I am fresh out really.

And as I won't be there anyway in Jan....not sure how much my opinion counts.  But...always one to give my opinion....  I think using the room at the super store could be really good.  Is it free?  We could just meet there the first time...and talk in person about what would be of interest for Store facalitites.

I can not think of another room which is not a restaurant and does not bother anyone with housework to host us.

So....other ideas?  I know we tell Charlene what we are not keen on...or I do anyway  but....what are we keen on?

Take Care,
C

and maybe if we just have an empty room we can create sort of an agenda to address all 5 groups.

Preop
Bands
Sleeve
RNY
DS

With somone volenteering to give a short "something" on their area.  Be it diet, a recipe, a sample of something, go over their exercise regime, or what ever.

Then each area could have a short Q&A.

And maybe we dont have a volenteer for each meeting...but we would probably have a few.  I know that at each meet and greet we do the Q&A anyway for Band, RNY and DS as people ask those of us in the room questions.

What do you think?

I think that is a great idea!  Does Dr S do the sleeve?  I don't know anyone getting the Sleeve. When you book the community room, you have it all to yourself. People can see in, but they can't hear you. I can go through my books and look for another topic- it doesn't. look like I will have surgery in January!!.....Do you want to do something for February?
