called Dr B's office today
I called Nathalie to see if she know about the surgery. She told me that Dr B has 3 1/2 surgery days in January. She said that she sent a bunch of names over to the hospital before my name and that I may not have surgery before February!!! Do you suppose that she is using the old tell them the worse case senerio trick? If I thought that were true. I would can the diet for Christmas day.
Well, why not really watch yourself for the next week, do a little extra exercise and then enjoy your Christmas day (I said enjoy ... not go hog wild!) Afterwards get back into your weight loss regime for preop. Hope it goes well for you.
Not much OR time for Jan but hopefully it will pass quickly or a cancellation comes up when you're ready.

Who are you kidding? You signed up for the lapband to make a life change to lose weight. Once on the band, you can't pick and choose your days to diet or be good and which ones to cheat. While on the waiting list, you should be as good as you possibly can. I would never have dreamt about going off the program before my surgery. like I said to you in a previous post, what if you get a call due to a cancellation...you will be postponed. You need to make up your mind to be in this for the long haul and be the best you can be at all times. You have to pretend NOW that you have the band you eat the new way all the time. You have to mentally accept the life change and not put it off until the band is placed. This is the type of stuff that the psych consult is supposed to clear up. I don't want you to read this the wrong way, no personal feelings involved, but its frustrating to me after what I've been through to think that others who are waiting are playing head games with themselves to try and "get away" with something. Our life choice is to lose weight. This is just my opinion, but I think alot of people forget that this is just a tool. It's still all up to you and what goes on in your head. Don't do it.

I am sorry Scartears if you were offended by my comments to Charline, but I only want the best for her. and yes i am human, I never said i wasn't, but I can assure you that I did not eat one morsel that I wasn't allowed, prior to surgery. I took Lise's instruction very seriously.
Charline, if it were a cookie you were talking about I don't think you would have used the term "can the diet". To me that sounds like a big pig=out. if it's a cookie you want, anyone can have a cookie. But it didn't sound like a cookie to me. I was just trying to keep it in perspective for you.
But that was only MY opinion. everyone will do what feels right for them, including myself.

Patsy,
Not so much offended as understanding of both sides of the situation.
Everyone is at different places in their journey and I'm sure if you look at the general lap band board, you'll see failures and successes.
I know a lap banded patients who lost 140 pounds and didn't exercise once. She's my best friend and she basically told me, the band was a piece of cake. She was born overweight and hit 300 pounds at 16. She finally got banded at 24 and all she did was get her fills, never drank before/after meals, keep restricted and she lost all of her weight. She didn't diet months before the surgery except her two weeks post op.
Then we have Krista- who basically said, I had to exercise an hour a day to lose the weight I lost. Everyone is different and everyone will have different emotions and experiences on this board and during their weight loss journey.
I can see where both you and Charline are coming from. This dosn't mean you will be more successful than her or vice versa. Following a diet is hard during the holidays. I'm sorry maybe it's just the way I read your comment, it just sounded harsh to me and I'm sorry maybe I read it wrong.

Patsy.
When I read your answer for the second time, it occurred to me that one of my biggest obsticles to successful dieting in the past is my tendency to perfectionism. One slip and the felt that I had failed and end of diet. I am trying not to be perfect. I am focused on one meal, snack etc at a time. One slip is not the end, it just a new starting point, or a blip on the radar screen. If being perfect works for you, good for you. It sabotages me.
I wasn't talking about a total pig-out, That has never been my style. I am a nibbler.
Another thought- Caroline told me not to worry about loosing weight before the Optifast stage. I wonder why she said that.
Oh well, we each struggle through the best we can.

Dr. S told me the same about not needing to diet pre op (except for two weeks shakes). I think dieting before is a great idea if you have the right mindframe (and believe me, it's a mind frame because i lost 80 pounds on my own once and you need that mind frame to do it on your own and take it from a perfectionist wannabe, it comes and it goes. I stayed on a strict diet for two years decided I was going to lose weigt and I did, but it went away :/ ) - but I mean it all comes down to this, and maybe i'm wrong but...
If they expected us to lose a bunch of weight before, then why would they even bother placing the band in the first place? If we could do it on our own, then why are we asking for help?
I am the first to admit I need help. I do pig out. That's why I'm here. Some days I am able to regulate myself and some not. I am here right now because I don't want to play the yoyo game anymore. Christmas day is hard and patatos aren't the enemy.I have my good and bad days. I have my good and bad years and I am here for help.
.
I don't expect the band to do all the work, but I expect it to do some of the work, if has to do some of the work otherwise what's the point?
I promise that during my two weeks pre op I will not touch a morcel, but until then..can I promise? No, If I could do that I wouldn't be here.
