Yeah, me too. I don't think I could have a foreign object in my body and don't want to be tied to the George Dumont every 6 weeks for the next year or two.

That is why it is so important to research, reseach and do more research because the surgery is only one step of the process and you have to make sure that you are comfortable with the lifestyle, eating conditions, followup conditions etc in the lifetime afterwards to make sure you get the full potential of your chosen "tool".

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Hi Debbietic,
This is a very exciting stage..the research and prep for WLs stage.  I wish you all the luck in the world with your RNY or Band (if you change your mind).

I take it your BMI is over 60 and I can tell you first hand...the change in quality of life when you start to drop the pounds is enormous...really enormous.  Next year is going to one of the most exciting!

Good Luck with it all!
Catherine

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I have been researching this for over 3 yrs now and one of my best friends had the bypass done as well so I do know what is to be expected in some sense of the matter. I'm ready for the change and looking forward to the experience.  Merry Christmas to all you!!!

Take care,
Debbie

Debbie, it's hard to tell from your pic. What is your bmi? Is it over 60? Mine is 51.2

Starsky said you had to have a bmi of 60 or higher before he would do bypass. I hope that's not truw. Now I am so worrird.

This is not so from what Dr. B discussed with me. I qualify for Gastic Bypass and my friend already had it done by Dr. B and her BMI was 52 :)

This is what is posted on the RNY site:

Q: Who is eligible for weight-loss surgery?
A:
A person may be a candidate for bariatric surgery if he or she is at least 100 pounds overweight and traditional weight-loss methods have failed.

So if you fall into this category I'm sure you'll be fine...
