For those going to Bathurst, here is some interesting information on a little section near the  hospital that is cheaper than most hotels/motels in the area if you want to save.

506-544-3247
506-544-2434

twelve rooms including handicap accessible rooms.

kitchenette
living room with television set and sound system
pavilion located within walking distance to the hospital

$10 per room per night for clients awaiting admission/services or recently discharged
$25 per room per night for family members of patients

To register for a room, clients must report in person to the accounts office between 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.

for more questions, please call them directly cause I will have to call them as well!!!   hahahahaha

My mother in law says it's clean and very nice for someone living far and wanting to stay longer after surgery to make sure everything is ok.  We will try to stay for an additional 2 nights because the drive is at least 2.5 hours... ouch.

I didn't call yet, but just wanted to put it out there

Health and laughter,

Rachel

That's fantastic information for our Bathurst bound friends. Anyone know if  there is something similar at the Georges Dumont? There is often a hotel that offer special rate for patients at a local hotel. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I am going to do a search & post anything I find.

Very cool Rachel!  My hubby will want to stay a night or two till I am out of the woods so this would be great.

Sounds very similar to the Ronald McDonald house we stayed at while our son underwent his open heart surgery.  I stayed there for 2 weeks with my hubby for one week and my mom the next week - cost was low, had a kitchen so could cook you own meals rather than cafeteria food all the time.

When you went up did you take hyw 11 or the 126?  Took us only 2 hours (mind you I have a tendency to doze off and hubby then takes advantage of driving a little faster.  LOL

Hope you have a great trip and birthday fun with hubby - give him my best wishes!  Hopefully we can get together in the next week or so to meet

Thanks Rachel !!!!! That is great. My hubby will be staying as well. I also think I will stay a couple days after I am released from the hospital. Anyone know how long after DS that we will be in the hospital if all goes well?

you guys are welcome.  I'm not sure how many nights for DS but I think that band is one.  That's what he told me, so I'll know later what's going on. ..

We figure we will stay there the night before and try to get the room for 3 nights.  I think there's 2 twins so that would be perfect since I am not used to sleeping on my back.  As long as I have my babe near me...

Michelle- thank you for the nice wishes and I will tell him.   Can't wait to meet you guys.

I grabbed a brochure from Dr. S' office on this Pavillion and typed most of the information in it... so hope it helps.   There's also a few hotels in the area but I'm not sure of the price.

Also, I'm confused if you can rent a room in advance at this place or not so I'll let you know eventually.   Can't wait to get my date...  I just wanna know and move on...  even if it was in the summer time, at least we could plan a few things.   I guess I just need to have a little more patience.

I think you gals are very wise to plan to stay in Bathurst for a couple of nights before driving home.  You will be very tempted to be in your own bed...but...as no other Dr is familiar with the DS...I think it is a great idea to sit tight for a couple days to just rest some more.   IT will also give you a chance if you do have some questions in the 1 to 2 days following...to easily be able to see Dr. Savoie if needed.

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
