Hi,

Just thinking we could start a thread as a first stop onthe road to research...what links can you recommend for a newbie to start surfing on to get the more research?

I like what Michelle wrote before...so will repeat it again

You should really read every single page for every single type of WLS - Lap Band, Rny, Dudenal Switch, Sleeve - they each have pages that describe what the surgery does, how your body is changed, the complications and the life requirements/restrictions afterwards.  Check out the different forums as well as the Complications and Revisions forums.

Check out some other sites too, read studies, watch the videos and become very informed.

Here are some site recommendations - Anyone got any more to highlight?

different surgeries:

Other sites I have used:
http://www.dsfacts.com/duodenal-switch-explained.html

http://www.duodenalswitch.com/

search for videos on Google video search

http://video.google.ca/?hl=en&tab=wv

http://video.google.ca/videosearch?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=etL&resnum=0&q=duodenal+switch&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#q=weight%20loss%20surgery&hl=en&emb=0

This is a great Canadian Site which even has a section about selecting the right surgery and what questions to research.

I know that we all say to research, research, and then research some more, but I didn't do all that much at first. When I heard of the lapband, I knew that was for me. I  have done a lot of research over time, just by googling. The only site I have stuck with is this one and in the end, most of my knowledge about living with the band came from here and the lap band forum. I have recently read 4 books on lap band.

The baraitic times always has a lot to offer.

I see this month an article on "Protein and the Bariatric Patient"

http://bariatrictimes.com/2008/10/07/protein-and-the-bariatric-patient-2/

in in a research phase the more general topics could be useful in thise publication.

I agree.  Although I only started my journey, I have read a lot of information and basically didn't sleep for the first few nights.  I was online reading and typing and asking questions.  I appreciate information however, that being said.  I am addicted to my new found online forum/family.

I bought a booked this morning- Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Dr. Robert W. Sewell and Linda Rohrbough.

I started to read it this morning and I'm hooked.   I'm watching Biggest Loser right now!!   hahahaha

To many more online session and hopefully one day, I'll be able to join you for a meeting.

Love,

Rachel

HI,
I think you have hit the nail right on the head...one surgery will just "feel right for you.  And the more you know about it..the more you can gear up to work with it the best.  I think Patsy and Ann are some of the best Band research tools (so to speak ) because their stories and blow by blow of their Bands really gives the rest a real feel for what they are working with.

And the books are great.

so...wisdom is power!  In many shapes and forms...sites, books, personal stories...it all helps to shape our determination to succeed!

Take Care,
C

ps.  some research by a famous Canadian Surgeon in the Bariatic Surgery field..."Bariatric Surgery to Attack Obesity Shown to Prevent Cancer in New Study"

now...that is some really interesting news!  TheSurgeon Dr. Nicolas Christou at McGill...has done some interesting research of his own!
