Would you recommend the Surgery you had to someone if they asked for your...
Just Curious...if someone wants WLS, they have several options on the type. Would you recommend the one you have? why or why not? Would you point them to a different surgery?
DS Surgery June 2006, Been fine every since. Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
I haven't had surgery at all, but i did point my cousin out to the type of procedure that I hope to get. I gave him the hURL to this site, and the dsfacts site. He read over the information and made up his own mind about which procedure he wants to get. He has an appointment with Dr.. S today, so I'm anxious to find how he makes out.
The irony of all of this is that the day that he was asking hsi doctor to make a referal to Dr. S, was the day that Dr. Beausoleil's office called him for a consultation after a 2 1/2 year wait.

I don't think I would. Why? Because my set of cir****tances are different from the next person's. Their needs are probably very different from mine. I have no expertise in this kind of thing. However, I would gladly share my experiences good and bad and encourage research and consultation with the chosen doctor. I think that is all I am really qualified to do - share my own experience. I certainly would not try to talk someone into having my type of surgery. Then what if they pressed their doctor for that kind of surgery and relented and it turned out to be the worst thing they ever did? I would never forgive myself. Nope. I dont think I would recommend anything to anyone. But I sure would support them in their process.
HI All,
I think it is interesting that hardly any of those who have had surgeries are not responding. Not sure what it tells me...but interesting none the less.
I would not recommend the DS. For me that is clear. I know that for me it was the right choice, but I also know that even if I do everything right...as I malabsorb so much...that even with following ALL the rules, as I do...I can still have serious vitamin deficiencies, or other health problems I need to address. This is why we all have to have so many blood tests...it is because all bodies are different, so far I have great blood results, but ... no one with a DS will be surprised to find they are low in some important area and need immediate help to "try" to rectify.
For this reason alone, I can not recommend it. I believe the DS takes a special mind set. And the only way to get to this mind set is to do all the reading and research to really understand...yes it works great, yes it is very easy to eat afterwards, yes it is easy to keep the wieght off....but...I do know, that I will fight the rest of my life to make sure I have the right vitamins and minerals in my body to be healthy. (think of it a bit like those of you who have low iron or onother low result in your blood work. you take the pills...but sometimes they are not enough...so the Drs have to keep upping the amounts, and try to find a solution for you.)
So...for me, I don't recommend it, I love it...but I will not suggest it. And I believe that before a Dr. should agree to give it...the patient should have to demonstrate a real strong understanding of how they might do all the right things...and they could still be malnourished or lack vitamins.
So....it is a great surgery for me...I made the choice...but recommend it to you...forget it! Not in a million years!
Just my way of thinking...interested in yours....
would you recommend your surgery? why or why not?
