Pros and Cons of DS
Hey PN
Sounds like you were really busy. Congrats on passing your exams! Hope your back has healed - would have been terrible if you had the same cold/cough as me with a thrown out back - the coughing would have been very painful. I think I have actually developed stomach muscles from coughing so much LOLOL. Slowly getting better (at least peeing my pants less )
Have actually been wearing my CPAP mask all day and all night for the past week as the light mist helps me to breathe easier and cough less - so another plus for the sleep apnea machine! Just may have to keep it even after the surgery hopefully clears up my sleep apnea. Glad you were able to get the test done so fast. In Moncton they are having troubles with the home test machines and my mom has had to wait several months.
I haven't heard anything from Dr S about the next appointment yet. He told me "winter" too which was sooner than I expected. Hopefully it won't be in a snow storm or when your parents are away.
Those were cool recipes you found. I LOVE cheese - pretty much any type any way, lol so will be using it all kinds of different ways. There have been some tasty recipes on the DS forum too.
Great job on the write up for the other blog site. Good thing we have already been in to see him - before the cross Canada influx of DS wannabes! Soon he will have a huge waiting list like Dr B.
Take care, keep in touch

Hiya Michelle,
I'm so glad that you're feeling better and recovering from your cold, and that your panties are feeling better too. ;-) Nothing worse than a darn cold that makes you cough and cough. :-( You end up losing out on a lot of sleep that way. I'm quite glad that there is a positive note about the CPAP machine! The dry air is what makes me cough during the middle of the night.
I was shocked that I got the test machine so quickly - my doctor sent in the referral on Monday, and the hospital called on Wednesday. Really quick!
I hope for all of us that there won't be a snow storm or anything like that when we're called into surgery. I just feel for everyone that has to travel up to Bathurst. My parents live in Campbellton, so I'm used to the trip up north, but for those who don't have to regularily make that trip up there, it's a pain.
Instead of dreams of dancing sugarplums in our heads at Christmas, we'll have dreams of crispy, melted cheese. :-D I am looking forward to that aspect of eating after the surgery.
Thanks! I'm just impressed that NB got something before the other provinces did! :-D that never happens. And I'm also glad that we all found this board so that we knew of his existence so we could get an appointment before the huge influx od DS wannabes. :-D I'm sure that once he gets well-known both he and Dr. Beausoleil will be comparing notes at how long of a waiting list they have. :-D
Take care!!
Kim

Hi Kelmera74,
As you have mentioned you are a newbie...and I told you there are pros and cons to each surgery...here are my Pros and cons to DS surgery. Which is really called the BPD/DS or the biliopandreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch.
I am not sure if there is a pros and cons for each of the other surgeries...but I am sure if you start a thread for the band pros and cons, or a thread for the RNY pros and cons.....people will respond to help you.
Take Care,
C.
