Questions about Optifast
I was just wondering how many ounces of liquid does Optifast require? Also can you just drink it down if you don't particularly care for the taste. I have tried the SlimFast and hate that so I am really worried that I won't like the Optifast and that will kind of complicate things. Patsy, maybe you can answer this one.

Good question. You mix each one with 300 ml of water. I used a stick blender and mixed it really well. the colder the better. Sometimes I would blend up a bunch of ice and sort of eat it, but not often. I used to chug it down in about 2 or 3 gulps. I didn't mind the taste at all. By the end of the second week, as you recall I was ready to blow it up but got through it. I didn't ever drink it slowly. 300 ml is just over a cup I think. you'll do just fine. don't worry. get on it as soon as it arrives. you drink 4 a day.and drink water inbetween. you go girl !!! i can't believe you are so close to your date !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Patsy,
Were you hungry during this time at all? Tempted to eat something solid and pretend you didn't? I have a really hard time drinking anything like that and I worry this could stop me right in my tracks. I have no idea how I'm going to get through it other than drink tons of water. I'll have to look up this optifast and see what exactly it does for you!! I'd rather have brain surgery than drink stuff like that!! Oh well....

HI,
I see on the optifast webpage there are some recipe ideas....do you think you are allowed to venture into some of these recipe ideas as a preop? Just a suggestion...but someone more knowledgeable would have to let you know if it is a good idea.

DS Surgery June 2006, Been fine every since. Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
it comes from minogue medical in Montreal. It's by prescription only. They will only ship to you once they get an email from Rinette, the dietician saying that we have permission to purchase. As for the recipe ideas, not sure. probably if there are no additional calories involved ... MAYBE. but i doubt it. They are 225 calories each for a total of 900 per day . As for the taste of it, i never cheated once. never ate or drank one thing other than optifast and water. not once. My dedication to the program is what kept me on track. I never had the urge to deviate until the last day. I was almost in tears but never broke down and gave in. I wanted to be able tosay i stuck to it without lying. I don't like stuff like that either but i didn't mind these. use very cold water and lots of ice cubes, the colder the better. it says to drink immediately after making it. don't let it sit, or take it with you somewhere. So I'd make it and chug it down in 3 gulps. mmmmmmmmm !!!!
brings back memories. You could always try plugging your nose if it bothers you, but I think you will do just fine. Don't dwell on it. I thought it tasted like chocolate milk, so don't tell me otherwise !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Patsy

oh i forgot the part about hungry. I don't think i was ever starving, you need to follow the same rules about not drinking with your meals. don't want to wash that through your stomach too quickly. you want to hang on to it as long as you can. Occassionally i'd get hungry but not all the time. JUST REMAIN FOCUSED ON YOUR GOAL...THE SURGERY...AND NOT GETTING POSTPONED !!! IT WORKED FOR ME.

With the "normal" weight loss Optifast plan you have 3 shakes a day plus a low carb meal. You can stay on the 3 shakes plus a meal plan for up tp 18 months as long as it is medically supervised. Dr B does not do that. I have read a number of posts where people have said that don't feel physical hunger, but wanting to eat is a problem occasionally. The only thing is am worried about is sweets. I lie to myself about sweets now, what is going to stop me when I am on the shakes? I just keep telling myself that like the Aitkin diet, the worst part will be the first 3-4 days until the carbs are out of your liver. I found that avoiding carbs after that was easy. I also know that one slip and you have to go throught the headache of withdrawal all over again. Plus it is only when you body is out of carbs, does it burn fat instead of sugar for fuel. If you haven't guessed it, Optifast operates on the same principle as the South Beach , Aitkin, and Zone diets.
I am anxious to get started so everything that worries me now can be overcome. It's like labour- you may worry about it for 9 months, but once it starts, you handle it just fine!
