Thinking out loud !
oh....and another tip when talking to us "oldies"....
try to get a feel for how compliant we are with our surgeries. For example, I was told of someone who the RNY didn't really work so well, but then heard that from the first day they drank tons of carbonated drinks...no wonder his surgery didnt work so great...he probably stretched his pouch back to being large pretty quick with all that gassy pop.
I totally believe that there are times when people do all the right things, and it jsut doesn't live up to their dreams. And for the next guy it works like a charm. Just weed out your stories to understand if the person was working with our against their surgery.
and make sure you know all the "band rules" and "pouch rules" to ensure the best rate of success. I dont know them myself, but they are out there for both of those surgeries.
for BPDds the rules are ... eat protein, never miss your vitamins, avoid sugar (as is one thing you dont malabsorb). Dont drink ofr a year to let your liver recover then after that...be careful as it goes to your head like bomb. And stay away from the carbonated drinks totally in the early days....you dont want to stretch out any part of your new plumbing! :)
take care,
