well last week I went for blood work...I got a call this morning that my sugar is higher than normal and now I have to go get anoher diabetic test!

i can't believe i may be a diabetic..

I know there are a few of you here who are, are you always tired?

In the past couple of months, I have been exhausted and sleeping way too much. I went to see my GP because I was sure I had a thyroid problem.

thanks

That is bad news, but the surgery is almost certainly a cure. How high is high?  Was the test fasting or not fasting?
I think I have always been tired!!!  LOL  Are you drinking a lot, just can't quench you thirst? Are you going to peeing a lot more frequently and the volume isn't that high?  Suger irratates the kidneys and blader.

Thanks C, that's what I've been telling myself. The surgery couldn't have come at a better time.

I'm not sure on the sugar levels, I'll know next week when I see my doctor. The secretary just called this morning (on a saturday too!) and said the Dr. wanted to see me for my high sugar levels and to schedule another sugar test.

The test I had was fasting- I have to take another one, I think it may be the breakfast or sugar drinks.

I am drinking alot of water, just to give you an idea, I drank 27 bottles of water in a week. I'm thirsty, like I wake up with a dry taste in my mouth. I have also been peeing more, especially waking up at night - it's unlike me but I was just thinking it was the water.

I hate to admit, but a month ago I hurt myself and had a cut. Well I noticed that it took longer than usual to heal. I'm normally a quick healer- but this cut just seemed to take forever.

It seems I have been avoiding all symptoms for a few months!

I am an  insulin dependant diabetic.
It does make you tired either way low or  high .
Do you take your blood sugar levels ?
If you do .....0-3.8 is   too low
               ......3.8-7 can be normal ....NORMAL is around 5 & 6 .
               ......7-10 is normal high
              .......10-13 is high
              ........13-23 is too high
When its in the double digits it = extreme thirst , fatigue , weight loss, blurred vision, frequent urnation, weakness.
I have been in the 30's , & I havnt; had all the symptons . I have had blurred vision, never lost any weight .  Always tired.
Have it checked out & take what you have to ...after surgery it will go away !!!

I hate to say it but it does not sound good.  I would lay off the carbs Try to get only complex carbs and start moving, because only muscle will burn carbs without insullin. The surgery will really be a God send for you.

it was kinda strange the way it happenned to because I went to see my GP cause I was tired and not feeling quite right. She sent me for blood work and all came back normal and she was about to send this report to Dr. S until she notice she had forgotten to check my blood sugar. So off for another blood test I went.

I'm kinda scared I have to admit because I know nothing about nutrition with diabetes. A good thing is that I stopped eating and drinking sugar a week ago, trying to get ready for surgery

OH and I'm getting weighed most likely on Thursday! I hope I have lost...to beat you :P

You would catch up real quick because the scale has climbed a couple of pounds since I started walking. I know I shouldn't  focus on the scale, but I do.
I love the new avatar. you could switch your name to sparkle kitty!

A diabetic diet is really the canada food guide. Of course you have to limit carbs, especially simple carbs, sugars, white flour products, and the like. Fruit has to be spread out because fruit is nature's candy. You can have 2 pieces of fruit but not at the same time. Uncooked veggies are better than cooked, especially sweet veggies like carrots. The cooking breaks down the carbs in the carrot and caused them to be absorbed faster and thus makes your blood sugar to raise too fast.  Exercise is the best way to lower your blood sugar.  I will answer any questions I can for you.
