Do any of you have a DS?  If so, what do you think of it?  Does Dr. B or Dr. S do them?  Are they also covered by Medicare?

Trying to get all the info I can right now...and waiting until Monday so I can call that secretary for my referral letter.

Catherine had a DS- She can fill you in much better than I.  Dr Savoie does DS and he is one of the few doctors that does in Canada.  It is covered by medicare. Research it well as it is the most drastic of the choices. It has the most risk but the highest success rate.

Charline's got the answers covered in her response. :-)

Dr S does them, as well as the lap-band, and the VSG. Dr B does the lap-band and RNY.

Dr S does the DS as open surgery, and he told me that it takes 3 months before you can go back to work as you're pretty tired during that time.

There's a lot of people's stories on the DS forum - a lot of them have their journals on their personal pages. Check my list of friends on my personal page, as there's a lot of DS patients on there as I think that I'm heading towards the DS direction.

I am getting the DS with Dr Savoie!

Check out Catherine's post - lost of links for info, movies etc.  Maybe our next meeting could be on a Saturday evening and we can go up together as stay at Catherine's overnight - will your hubby be up to letting you have a girls slumber party?

Or feel free to call me.

HI,
I am catching up on the forum....I was surprised to see the Dr. said 3 months off work.  I went back 2 weeks after I got home from Hospital. It was a month after surgery.  If I had not been getting sick pay....I would have gone back a week earlier.  Mind you...I have a desk job.

I did find that I was tired...but this happened after my gall bladder surgery as well.  My advice is walk alot now...and swim...swimming is great for those lungs.  It is the anesthetic that slows us down more then anything after surgery.  And building back up the lung strength.

But...3 months....great if you are being paid for 3 months...if you are not being paid...I would say 3 to 4 weeks.

just my experience.

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
