No surgery for me for a while

I called the doctor's office today because we have a scheduling issue at work and I was needing at least a guess-timate for my surgery.  Nathalie told me that chances are it won't be until sometime in December.  Lord I may end up having consume and jello for Christmas dinner.  Just kidding, I don't care about that.  I am all about spending time with the family and we never really eat a whole lot different at Christmas anyway so consume and jello will be a nice change.  But December seems like forever away.  He only has 3 surgery days in November and one of them has already been booked with general patients and she was not sure if there would be any room for WLS patients in those 3 days.  So I am a bit discouraged.  I was so hoping to have it done by the end of November.  Oh well, the fact that I am at least in the line up somewhere is a good thing so I should not be impatient.  But its hard not to be, after 4 years, and getting so close, it feels like I am moving in slow motion.  I can do this though.  I will be strong and keep losing weight while I wait.  But December!!! DARN!

Hi REal... sorry to hear about your bad news.  But don't be too disappointed.  Your time will come faster than you can believe.  Enjoy your meals while you can.  You've waited this long, another month won't hurt trust me.  Think positive.  You never know when he'll get a cancellation and you get that surprise phone call.  Enjoy your days as a full belly person until the time comes.  Don't overdo it but savour those meals.  Can you tell I'm drooling for a meal.  liquid is not a meal !!!!!!!!
Anyway, keep strong.

Thanks Patsy,  I will be fine.  I am trying to keep my calories between 1200 and 1500.  I am eating smaller portions and trying to chew more and take my time.  I have given up bread, carbonated drinks, drinking with my meals and I try to exercise every day.  I can wait, but you know how it is, you kind of get your hopes up and so it was no really bad news, just a bit of a let down.  Thanks for your words of encouragement.  It means a lot to know I can come here and have kind people like you understand how it feels.  I hope you can manage the liquid stage and that you are on soft mushies before long and in no time you will be experimenting on how not to get stuck.

Thanks again, Ann

I think I mentioned last week that Nathalie told me that there were only 3 surgery days in November. He will also be away to a conference for a week and out of the office for another week for some reason. I knew then that the earliest I would have surgery was December. Yes it is frustrating. Just think, a week ago you didn't know if you were even a canditate for surgery. If you remember that, what's another month?  You have more time to prepare for the holiday season. There must be something you wanted to do in November, that you can look at as a positive reason for waiting a month?  The main thing is that you are on the short list. I also waited for years and I wasn't even on Dr B's waiting list until they changed the approval process last February. I understand that the waiting becomes more intense once you have seen Dr B. so try to distract yourself and not think of it a hundred times a day. Weare waiting together.

Thanks Charline,  I knew you would understand because you have been waiting so long and you have lived the frustration and shared it with us.   I have lots I can do and lots I am going to do.  This weekend my son and his family are moving and we are helping them do that. Then I am going to look closely at my Christmas list to see what I have and what I don't and sort of like Santa I am checking it twice. Then I am going to plan a couple of shopping trips and hope to have it all squared away by the first of December.  I am working hard on making my diet my priority and I am exercising daily in some way.  I swim at least 3 times a week and use my treadmill the rest of the time.  I will be fine with the support of my friends on this forum.  We are indeed waiting together and that makes it a lot easier than sitting here trying to do it all alone.  Thanks for your support.

Hi Mona,
I am sure this has really gutted you.  I have struggled with low blood all my life.

I was border line in the count down to my WLS surgery and was really popping the iron pills, and luckily ...I did not have to move my DS.

Then I had a tummy tuck...and again border line.  BUT.... this time...my blood dipped under the border line point in "too low" because I lost more blood in this surgery.  And it was really scary.   I was given emergency transfusions, I had desperately low blood pressure.  All in all, a pretty awful experience.

I am no professional....and can't advise you.

But get some medical expertise.  How low are you?  Is it always border line (like mine was) or have you just dipped low lately.  This might help to decide if you should wait.

For me...as mine was always border line...the Drs went ahead with my surgery because the feeling was that as I always pop iron...it was not likely to get a whole lot higher.

One thing they do here in Europe and not sure if they do in NB...is I went for an Iron Infusion..which was an IV of very strong Iron...to try to bring up my low blood.  Is that an option for you?

and will your family Dr recommend you are taking lots of iron to bring it up in the short time left?

Keep us posted....we are here with you...feeling your disappointment.

Take care,
Catherine

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
