Hi,

Do people with WLS ( Bands, RNY, DS) sport medic alert bracelets?    I know from the UK (my old site where I did my research) that people with Bands and RNY do, but not DSers.

Just wondering what is the strategy here in NB?  Sorry if I am repeating something already discussed.  I didn't see it recently.

Thx,
C

I don't know what people do here either, but I did see that some Mexican doctors supply their patients with a band.

I think that it's a good idea though because there may be a need for it if anything ever happens.

I don't know. I hadn't even thought about it. I don't wear one now for doabeties, and all my other fun co-morbidities. Why would it be necessary?

It's kinda funny. when you get discharged you get an ID card with a serial number on it issued by Lap Band and they put your name on it.  So I guess the idea is to keep it in your wallet in case of emergency.  I never thought I'd have a serial number !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I looked around the site a bit...there seems to be some mixed feelings on the Subject.

just something for the bansters to think about..something about a tube being put in during an emergency situation...

I keep that little shiney -ish green card that Dr. B gave me with the serial # on it along with his and Lise's phone numbers in a little clear card holder in my wallet so they are always together in case something happens.  I had looked for Medical Alert jewelery but found nothing.  Maybe we need to get together to design something pretty for us:)

In regards to a note in another post on the medic alert bracelets...here is some more info.

I checked on the WLS UK info site...where I used to hang my hat...and there the bandsters and RNYs all seem to sport them.  (reference http://www.wlsinfo.org.uk, so a search "medical alert' in forums section)

So...I am not sure why here in NB it is not recommended.  And to be honest...I have no idea if it is needed in the event you get a NG tube.  Some are lovely though   .  Maybe in UK it is a WLS status symbol.. who knows.

I did do a google search on "ng tube, rny, medic alert?"  and it does seem to be the norm on many different WLS sites...just going through a couple of pages of link headlines on sees this.

Here are some of the links they are using to order them on the WLSinfo site in uk.

http://www.laurenshope.com/shop.aspx

The Laurenshope one is the one recommended on http://www.beforeandafterhelp.com  which is set up by that WLS author  Susan Maria Leach.

There...all you ever wanted to know about medic alert...but were too bored to ask..

take care,
C
