Dr B told me that there is a new bariatric surgeon in New Brunswick.  He is Dr Mark Savoie in Bathurst. He just finished his training and will start doing WL surgery this month!

 Hey Charline.
My doc told me this last week.  I'd still like to know how they're going to work the list...if some of the longer waiting Dr. B patients will go to Dr. S, or if Dr. S will start with a fresh list with the newest people referred to him.  I'd just like to know.  Apparently he's setting up shop next week; I'd like to have a #, so I could ask questions.   Maybe my doc. will know.

I was Refered to the new doctor a couple of weeks ago because my Dr. was already aware he was starting practice. I called last week and the secretary told me there are currently about 40 names on his list (including me). I assume this is because not everyone was aware of this new doctor, she stated that he is starting this week.

I don't believe he will be taking Dr. B's list but I could be wrong but from that's not what I understood from his secretary. She told me I will be seeing this new Doc sometime this month so once that happens I will remove my name from Dr. B's list (I have been on it for almost two years).

Either way, the good news is that it will shorten the wait time for everyone because now that we have 3 doctors in halifax and two in NB!

I'm excited to be starting this journey!

That is awesome news for you folks in NB.  I was referred just last week so I hate to think how long it will be before I get a consult.  Finially, doctors are seeing there is a need for this type of surgery here in Atlantic Canada.  Best of Luck to everyone who get's theri call. Regards, Sugarbear

Oh, I think the doctors have known for a long time. It is the politicians and bureaucrats who have refused to see that WLS is treatment for the disease of obesity, not a moral failing . My opinion is that they have only loosened the restrictions because they finally see that it save the health care system money.

Yes, Charline, I totally agree. BUT everyone (including me) has to be more out there and talk to the politicians especially during election.  This cannot be a taboo subject. We need less wait times and more doctors. Our disease has to be treated as seriously as other life threatening diseases.  I must ask my federal candidate what he knows about obesity or if he cares. His answer will be interesting. I am off on a mission. Sugarbear
