Bubbly Stuff

So I quit Diet coke on Sunday night.  No more bubbly drinks after the surgery, so I'm done.  I used to drink alot of it and got my caffein from it, but now, it's water and juice.  I don't do hot drinks so that's out.  I'm doing ok but figured it had to be cold turkey or not at all.  I tried cutting down but that doesn't really work in any addiction.  we all know that. so wish me luck.

I hear you Patsy!  I had a serious Perrier habit.  Carbonated drinks of any kind, Perrier or Coke or Pepsi are a no no after surgery.  The day I had my consultation on June 30, I quit Perrier and Pepsi.  I have not had a drink of anything carbonated since.  Mind you I have had the urge and been very tempted but like you I figured cold turkey is the way to go and I realized I would only be hurting myself if I gave in.  I figure this is good practice for the rest of my life.  If I can do it, you can do it.  Keep us posted as to your progress.  You will be so proud when you can say you have gone so long without it.  I know I am proud of the last 3 months.

Good for you. I wish I had the "whatever" to do that.  At the moment I don't feel that I have the strength, faith or whatever to control anything about me. Years of having a controlled diet and yet my health just goes down while my weight goes up.

They told me to give up carbonated drinks altogether as it will eventually stretch your stomach so I don't want to try any other pop or carbonate drinks.  I have 3 days under my belt now and now I can do it.  The headaches are under control !!!!

I know you can do it.  Every now and then I get the urge to have a Perrier with dinner or to buy a Diet Pepsi but I just try very hard to talk myself out of it.  I imagine I have already had my surgery and that I just can never have carbonated drinks again or it will damage my stomach.  I want to live a long healthy life so this is a choice I have to make to survive.

What are  you doing to lose weight prior to surgery?  I am doing okay in that department but struggling the last couple of days and I don't want to get postponed.

Hi Patsy ,

I hear you with the pop thing ! I went for my info session on Sept 11, 2007 and I quit pop that day! I had a 3 can a day diet Coke habit that I never thought I would shake  as my dad worked for Coke and pop was always on the menu! I have quit for over a year and while at times I would love to have a cold can , I will not go there again. It made a huge difference for me! It will be a year on Nov 20th since my surgery and I have been quite successful , 80 lbs so far. Summer was hard to loose , but I did not gain! Good luck with your surgery and keep focused it will be here before you know it and soon it will all seem like a dream.

Soda will not hurt your pouch any or stretch it....it may give you pain because of the acid.....but I just verified with the nurse and she said it is a myth about stretching your stomach it may cause pain but that is about it......but it has to be diet and not regular soda because regular soda has too much sugar

I'm not sure what nurse said that but I know Lise and Rinette said absolutely no pop for Dr. Beausoleil's patients.  So I'm not going to drink it.  I'm very focused.
