How is everyone today?
Hello all,
This board is awefully quiet. I am also on the mailing list for the Ontario folks and that one is humming all the time.
Some new info for us NBer's. Most may already know, some may not, so i will post anyhow.
This was sent to me on march 12th 2008 from Marjorie, she is Dr. Mcgibbon's assistant.
Medicare has changed their procedures for approval of bariatric surgery.
Dr. Sylvain Beausoleil in Moncton (506-858-xxxx) will be assessing all candidates for bariatric surgery through his office and prior approval from Medicare is no longer mandatory, therefore referrals to Dr. McGibbon are no longer necessary for this.
I am not sure if your family doctor needs to refer you to Dr. Beausoleil, but this is the new procedure.
We will be contacting all the family physicians shortly to inform them of the new procedures and returning all referrals for bariatric surgery consideration with Dr. McGibbon.
yeah I posted that info a few weeks ago. My family doctor received a letter from Dr B so your doctor may already know. Great news isn't it. As far as I know the referral goes from your doctor directly to Dr B. I was referred to him years ago because we didn't know that we had to go to Dr McGibbons first.
I check this site daily but now also go to the lap band forum too.
Hi there- I have been visiting the RNY forum daily- I have found it to be a very active message board. I have learned so much- have had answers very quickly to questions I had. Have a look! I'm doing great- 5 weeks post op- 26lbs lost- total of 44lbs since Jan/Feb- I'm loving fitting into clothes I haven't worn in years. Walking regularly. Back to work next week. Still fighting to get the protein in everyday- I will probably buy some protein bars or drinks or something on-line. In small-town Newfoundland- not available. I'm back to work on the 30th. Looking forward to it. Have a look at my profile- I put one month post-op pics there. Take care all! xo Mary
Hi Mary;
I am glad your doing well and feeling fine.I had a weight loss stall for a about a week That was scarey I though oh no this better not be it. I was truly worried. Post op I have lost 20lbs thus far pre op 34....54 lbs in total. I am glad that you are feeling well and doing GREAT good for you Mary!I too am wearing clothes I havent wore in years. The clothes I was wearing at surgery now are to big.I never thought this would happen. But I am glad that it is. Regarding protein I have no problem eating chicken or fish but milk makes me feel a bit nautious and I am a loverrrrrr of milk.Maybe in time it will get better.
Take Care
Hi KP- SO good to hear you are doing well also!!!!!!!11 The clothes thing- it's awesome eh? I am not able to eat large amounts of anything- like- 3 healthy bake fish sticks- that's it- or 2 oz of steak- that's it- or 1oz of cheese with 6 rice crackers- that's it- I have to chew-chew-chew- and eat it over 20-30 mins or else it won't go down- how about you? I'm wondering what amount you can eat for a meal? I am not able to get near the amounts per meal that are in our handbook. So I focus on the protein. I can drink milk- thank goodness. How about if you mix your milk with brown cow or quick or something? Maybe that would work for ya. I can't do bread at all so far. My hubby is leaving for fort McMurray tomorrow- for one month to start- then see what else comes up. I am back to work this Friday- I am so looking forward to loose uniforms! When is your husband due back from overseas? I would love to see the look on his face when he sees ya! You will be so glad to have him home- it's been a long road for you with him away. Do you ever feel hungry? I never do- it's unreal. Drop me a note on my e-mail when you get a chance- take good care and WE ROCK! xo Mary

To give you an example of what I can eat thus far--
Breakfast: a half slice of toast
half slice low fat cheese
(I try) to drink 1/4 cup of 1% milk
Note: yesterday I took a 1/4 cup of bran flakes and crushed them up really fine added milk and let them go soggy and had that for breakfast.
Dinner: 1/4 cup of tuna
4 mini breton crackers
1tsp low fat mayo
Supper:1/4 of ground chicken
1/4 cup of mashed potatoes
1/4 cup of carrots
Snack:1/4 cup of watermelon in a blender with ice cubes and cold water..yummy.
The only time I have had the uncomfortable feeling was eating watermelon without it being blenderized. But I still have a long way to go.I havent tried reg bread not toasted.
Your not eating much at all.Maybe I am eating to much?
Other things I have ate for Breakfast:
1 poached egg
1/2 slice of toast
1/4 orange juice
Dinner:
Gardeney soup 1/4 cup summer squash
3 mini breton crackers
1 ounce of cheese
Supper:
1/4 cup of salmon
1/4 cup of mashed potatoes
1/4 cup of peas
note all these meals take me about 45 minutes to eat.I have tried to get hold of dietician in moncton and its very hard to reach them to get more clarification on a few things.I want to make sure I am doing everything right and not mess this up.
My period was due a week ago maybe that was the stall in my weight loss but still no period and i am normally regular.Anyway Im sure it will work itself out.
My hubby is due home around the 19th of June on a short leave thene back to Kandahar.Hes got lots of things planned I hope I can keep up with him.My ribs are still sore in places and off to the left side of my incision is sore.I wish my surgery could have been done laproscopically.I think I may have recovered quicker.
