Surgery Complete
My surgery is finally over.I had my surgery on April 18/08 as planned. My surgery was done fully open and was gastric bypass.Needless to say my ribs and chest hurt quite a bit but I am slowly mending. They had to spread my rib cage (spacers or something).
I was brought into the surgical room and the team had a pile of blankets bunched together to elevate my chest for surgery. They had me contorted in a very uncomfortable position.I never said a word because I wanted it over.
I have very little memory of the first 2 days.I was heavily medicated. They had me on the machine where you self medicate for pain. One of the nurses by accident shut the machines meds off .A few hours later I was in so much pain I couldnt handle it.They unhooked me from the machine and after that they gave me shots for pain.
I spent approx 3 days in the hospital then was released with pain meds.I was re admitted to the hospital that same night with an inflamed pancreas.I never had that problem before nor did I know what the pancreas was or did.I spent anouther 4 days in the hospital. The minor complication resolved itself but put me behind in my eating schedule.I had to re start my purees again from the beginning where I hadnt eaten for awhile.
I found it very difficult to eat or drink just didnt feel like it.There was no problem thus far of eating or swallowing just a bit of nausea.I am now doing ok with eating just not able to eat a full meal out of the book.I force myself to eat as much of the suggested meal as possible then when full.I stop.I crush my vitamin...yuck!!!!but I will learn to live with it.
I have lost 34lbs prior to surgery within a month and a bit. Then an additional 11 lbs post op in about 12 days post op.In total this far I have lost 45lbs.I have no idea what I weigh right now becuase my gram doesnt have a scale.
Hi Krista!!!!!!!!! There you are!!!!!! I'm not eating a full meal out of the book yet either. I stop when I know I am getting to the full point. I'm trying to make what I eat count- protein foods etc- also I don't crush my vitamin- just break it in half. Did this right from a couple days post -op. Message me when you get home and settled- I know you are looking forward to that so much! Take care- and- WE ROCK!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Welcome to the losers bench. I know you probably aren't feeling the greatsest right now, but with a bit of time it will be a memory. You will start to feel so much better. Life really does get so much better again! It sure is worth thew wait. I hope you have a speedy recovery! Good luck on your journey to health!! Take care.
