Fellow NB Lapbanders?

Hi ! For those who don't know me, my name is Krista and I am from Quispamsis (just outside Saint John). I was banded last July and with the 25 lbs pre-op loss, I am down a total of 97 lbs. This band has been a dream come true for me. I've got to say that it takes a lot of work and commitment and is not for those not willing to give it their all. I eat very healthy now and exercise 5-6 days / week for at least an hour. I've worked extremely hard to get where I am. Having said that, the band keeps me satisfied longer and with less food, which is EXACTLY what I had hoped for. It doesn't choose the food or exercise ~ that's all me ~ but without the band, I could not have done this. I was a compulsive eater and those days are now gone (thankfully!) Any other banders out there?

I'm still a wanna-be, but I really appreciate your testimony. It reinforces my decision. Thanks

Hi Krista, I'm bander too. I'm in Moncton. I got mine on February 28th. Everything is going well. I'm down 17 lbs since the surgery and 37 lbs total since pre-op. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's inspiring. I hope I do as well as you. Keep up the good work and congradualations! Pascale

Hello Krista, I am happy to connect with fellow NBers. I have been looking into the Lapband for several months and didn't know Dr. Beausoleil did the procedure...I stumbled across his name on a Quebec lapband web site. I know he ran the obesity clinic at the hospital but I thought he only did bypass. I was discouraged to hear there is such a long waiting list to see Dr. B. I called today. I have been investigating the possibility of going to Toronto or Montreal (they could band me nxt month!!) but the cost is exhorbitant. The thought of having it done in Moncton was just too good to be true... Do you know of anyione who has gone out-of-province? My best friend's husband is a laporoscopic surgeon (gall bladders etc) so I am told with some training (thought a dvd) he could do the fills for me...I need to make sure there is proper follow up. I am completely wll versed in the procedure and the risks/benefits and my role in reaching my goals. I am so ready. I am 40 years old and have tried everything (with some success) only to gain back..plus some. I know losing weight doesn't solve all life's issues but I do kow there is a happy person waiting to get out. I have about 100 pounds to lose. Because of my height (I am almost 5 foot 10) I can pack on the weight and still look relatively ok. But my BMI is high and my self-esteem is rock bottom. I already eat well (too much food, but welll) and exercize so I hope I can have success with this band. any advice, input would be most appreciated. It is a big decision to put this kind of money into a procedure but I am really ready. Christine

Hi Christine,
how did you get on since spring?  There is a second Dr. in NB now...you might want to look into the wait.
Good Luck!   And keep us posted if this other surgeon/friend takes on doing fills.  he could have a whole new sideline :)
Takecare,
C

DS Surgery June 2006,  Been fine every since.  Weight stays the same. Rarely remember I had surgery.....except for the daily vitamins.
