Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I only found this board tonight and have been reading. I was referred to a Dr. in Halifax several years ago but never heard anything. I'm in Saint John and came here to find out about coverage for the surgery and the how the whole process works. You need an internist to refer you for coverage?
Be prepared for a long wait!!
Your family Doctor refers you to an internist or other specialist in your area who is willing to make a recommendation to Medicare. Then you wait and wait for an appointment. If you are lucky you are already a patient of such a specialist and you may get in quickly. Once approved by Medicare, you go on Dr Beausoleil's wait list in Moncton. Eventually you will get the magic call. I have been waiting 3 years to see the specialist. If I sound discouraged, it is because I am. Don't let me discourage you because others have had there surgery much quicker than that. You can learn a lot from reading the posts on this site.
