For those who don't know me, my name is Krista and I live in Quispamsis, just outside Saint John. I had been waiting over 3 years to get in to see Dr B and finally was banded on Tuesday. I was supposed to be banded in May but I gained 5 lbs having "last suppers" so my surgery was postponed. Fast forward to now. I lost 25 lbs from Jan - now on a combination of WW and the pre-op diet. So my pre-surgery weight was 245 lbs. I have no co-morbities so I feel very fortunate that I was approved for payment by Medicare. I just had to pay for the band itself ($4500) My surgery Tuesday was scheduled for 915 am. I was in recovery for 3 years, gettng pain meds and nauseu meds via IV and then in the day surgery unit for another 4 hours resting and being monitored. They send you home with a prescription for pain killers which I took faithfully for the first 2-3 days and have now been easing off of. I had my gall bladder out in 99 and was told the pain was similar so I knew what to expect. I find the pain to be less wth this operation. Having said that, on Day 5, I am starting to feel more pain than I have. Nothing unbearable by any stretch of the imagination though I am very pleased. I still have pain in the shoulders but I always do anyway so I don't notice it being a big deal. I was on clears for one day and am now on full lliquids for the first 2 weeks. I am drinking 12 cups of liquid per day. Should be drinking more water than other stuff perhaps but at least I am getting 12 cups in. I find I have to constantly have something by my side ready to drink to get this amount in. I'm having things like water, Crystal Light, chocolate milk, apple juice, tomato soup, V8, Carnation Instant Breakfast, homemade shakes, eggnog and the disgusting Boost (first one yesterday which was not that great) I am still puffy and I think the scales have only gone down 2 lbs but I'm not stressing over it.I know from reading the Lap Band Forum that I am still retaining fluids and that the anathesia takes some time to work itself through the body as well. One thing that I found a little freaky is that I have METAL STAPLES! Eek! I'm sure they are fine and I was told they would leave less scarring but it seems so archaic to me. you know? I wish everyone the best on your journies! It's a long old wait but we are worth it.

Krista - I didn't like Boost either. I use "Designer Whey" Protein Powder. It has 17 grams of protein and is low in carbs - I mix it with fat free milk which gives me an extra 7 grams of protein, and it tastes pretty good. I like the Chocolate. The vanilla is so-so, so I usually blend it with fruit for a better taste.
