Hi. Just wondering who had been watching this program on TLC? I have been following it each week now. What are your takes on what you have seen? The psych part of it is something that we don't have, wondering why and do any of you guys think it may be something we could benefit from ? Nice to hear what everyone has to say and you all have a great day.

Hey there Mim... I have only caught the tail end of one episode and found it interesting. They certainly do things differently in the states... I do agree that there should be more support available before and after the procedures... things change so rapidly, I think we would benefit with more people to talk to...

I am totally in shock. I had no idea that weight loss surgery was even an option for us here in NB. Have you actually had it? My doctor has been agressively trying to help me lose weight for years now, it's odd she has never mentioned surgery as an option.

Hi Colleen - my doctor of 20+ years never mentioned the possibility to me either. I had heard about the surgery from another friend here in NB and jumped on the bandwagon 3 years ago. My doctor supports my decision as we've tried EVERYTHING else but like yours, he wasn't the suggester, I was. I don't know anyone in SJ that has had the surgery,

I love that show. I watched the all. Our program here isn't exactly like it is there, although....I remember in my all day session in nov. There was a psychologist come in and talk to us. She also told us all that anytime we needed to talk to her she was there, either before, during or after. That she was part of the bariatric team along with the surgeon, nurse, nutritionist, and herself. So I think we just don't take advantage of the offer like maybe we all should. Now as for the Big Medicine show...my fiance thinks I shouldn'****ch it, thinks it will make me more nervous and scared now since I have a date. But really it makes me feel better after watching, so far anyways.

Yeah, I know there are people "available" to talk to.. but when you live hours and hours away, it doesn't make it feasable to go to a support group meeting for an hour and then have to drive 2-3 hours to get home again... I know there are a few people in around the area that have had or are thinking of having surgery and I was thinking of starting a monthly meeting... if anyone is interested, let me know!!

it is a long way to travel for sure. So a support group of people around you might be a great idea. But what I was talking about was more then support group. The one on one psychologist is offered, but of course, you have to be close to Moncton I suppose or maybe ask to see her when you are off to appointments in Moncton to see the Surgeon. Just to let everyone know...they did offer us a psychologist if we needed as part of the team as well as support groups in Moncton and Fredericton, likely there are more smaller support groups out there, and if there are a few people in an area, might be a good thing to start one up as some of us are not that close to moncton!

I agree with the fact that some of us are too far away for the service offered. I am 7 hours drive away, so it is not practical for me....however I have found one in my local community who is seeing me and helping me "prepare" for my new life. She is great and will continue with me along the journey. I am still waiting for consult , but thought it would be in my best interested to set this up now. I suggest that for people who are too far away they should seek out local help...it is a free service here anyways. (NS). Best wishes! Krista
