Gallbladder gone bad.. uggg
Hey there everyone! I hope you are all doing well in your quest! I am now 107 pounds down but my gallbladder decided it didn't like me anymore. I had been having a few episodes with it before my surgery but knew that the chances were that it would get worse and I would have to have it removed at some point. I had attacks off and on for the past few months, and actually enjoyed a 4 week reprieve. Then sunday came... I had an attack that lasted for almost 3 hours. It wasn't pretty. Monday was ok, then Tuesday afternoon hit and I started another attack, but this one didn't go away... by 9 pm, I decided to go to the emergency room. I was admitted right away because of the amount of pain that I was in. They did blood work right away and my liver function was out of control... Our hospital here decided that it was too risky to touch me here so I was transferred back to Moncton to see Dr. B, who told the attending physician to send me there right away. Dr. B as usual was so awesome and comforting. We started an agressive antibiotic regime as my gallbladder was extremely enflamed, full of small stones and sand that were blocking the valves through to the liver (or something like that) L* (Sorry I was on pain meds LOL)... even after 3 days of IV antibiotics I kept having attacks, so yesterday morning (Friday), Dr. B. said, well.. lets get it out of there.. .and we did. I am home next day.. wow huh? Unreal how quick they send you home now. But with my pain meds and rest, I think I will be ok.... the upside, I lost 5 lbs this week hahahaha... works for me!!!
Been there, done that! Another side effect of living large! LOL. Seriously, good that they took it out and you are feeling better now. The gall bladder can cause some really serious problems. When you do feel 100%, & it won't take long, remember that you had major surgery & take it easy!
By the way, I have been wondering if your St Margarets is the one south of Chatham.....oh dear, showing my age!....I mean Miramichi.
GET WELL SOON!!!!! I had mine out last May, I feel your pain the attacks are terrible. I am in the lucky 15 % that still have attcks after removal! Try not to do too much too fast, you dont want to develope adhesions...been there too and had them removed this january! (got back to normal life a bit too soon) LOL They certainly dont keep you like they used too..it is like an assembly line now! Years ago my Mom was in for 10 days!
Hope you have a speedy recovery. Nice to hear Dr B was so accomadating to you. It speaks volumes about his care for his patients! Now a days I think that is rare.
Best of luck!
Krista
I sure hope that I am not in the 15% but I did have an attack on Saturday night after coming home, although it was a brief 20 minute attack, I do not want to experience it again. As i said in my post above, my family is making sure I take it easy because sometimes I guess I am just stubborn and want to get things done my way. I am going to give myself a few days of not doing much so I don't hurt myself. As for Dr. B, he was amazing once again. It was his weekend off and he waited for me to get to the emergency room in Moncton and booked me in himself, made sure I had a bed and followed up every day to monitor what was going on. He wasn't there for discharge but he told me beforehand that he wouldn't be and that he would see me in his office in 6 weeks. I just think that kind of follow up care is rare by any Dr. and I am glad I am one of the lucky one's to have been treated by such a caring man. Thanks again for the well wishes, they sure mean a lot!!!!
