Lapband in Fredericton
Hi Heather, I am from PEI, I don't think anyone else does the Lap band besides Dr B, PEI Medicare will pay part of the surgeon fee, assistants fee and 1 day in hospital, they will not pay for the Lapband itself. I check with both my and my husbands insurance companies and neither of them pay anything. Lise ( one of Dr B assistants) said she is not aware of any company that pays it in Canada. It is costing me approx.
$4900.00...that is $4500 for the band itself an the remainder for surgeons fees etc.
A small price to pay for one's health...I am waiting to sign my consent papers..hopefully soon
Good Luck
Hi Heather:
Dr. Beausoliel in Moncton is the only doctor in Atlantic Canada doing weight loss surgeries. Bypass is covered 100% by Medicare (upon approval) and all but the cost of the band, like the previous poster said, is covered. I was told $4500 -- didn't know about the additional $400.
I have been waiting 3 years for my surgery and have heard the waiting list is now even longer. I am sure it depends on your personal situation, though, as I know of one young man who got on the list, approved and should have surgery all within 6 months. I think it was for medical reasons so it's very individual for your wait.
All the best to you on this journey!
Hey Krista,
Just wanted to put a small note here. The extra 400$ is only for people from PEI. Cause PEI health care does not cover another certain part of the band procedure. I kinda forget exactly and I dont think I have the paper anymore because lap band was never a choice for me.Not something I'm interested in.
