Had appointment with Dr Dornan today!!!! (first step)
Hello everyone:
I was in today to see Dr Dornan (endocrinologist) for the first time and his nurse weighed me and surprise surprise I have lost some weight since my last visit to my family doctor I weighed in today at 301 pounds...yikes...but that of course will be changing for the better. I spent almost 3 hours at his clinic today talking with him and some of his team that will be helping me through this transition before seeing Dr. B in Moncton. I guess for the next 6-12 months I will be seeing his clinic and dietician and other team members to help me loose some weight as well as appointments to see Dr Bishop in the sleep apnea clinic. I am looking forward to going through to stage of my journey. Dr Dornan also explained to me the process in full stating that Medicae will not approve anyone unless they have been a patient with Dr Dornan or an Endocrinologist and Dietician etc for at least 6-12 months and have your mind set on this surgery before they will approve the coverage for the surgery. Also it will be some time before I get the chance to see Dr. B even though all my information has already been sent to him via my family doctor. That is ok I am patient but knowing today that Dr Dornan said I am a very good candidate for the gastric bypass I just have to go through this part first of loosing weight and exercising. I am glad I understand this a bit better but it has not discouraged me in the least so here begins my wonderful journey. My next appointment is March 8th with Dr Dornans Dietician then in May for a follow up appointment with Dr Dornan the Diectician and another team member to see how I am progressing...good luck to everyone else out there..
Hugs
Beth
Very nice start, I worry about those of us who cannot seem to lose weight no matter what the diet. What if perhaps very little weight lose happens? If a person can lose weight on a regular diet; Why then would surgery be needed? I have my appointment with him in late May. I am hoping all goes well when I see him. I wish you all the best and look forward to hearing about your progress along the way. I think surgery will help but I worry I can't lost the required weight. I am eager to hear how the diet works out
