I was referred in 2004 and had my first visit with Dr Beausoleil last month. It is a long wait but it is worth it. Good luck to you.

I had my referral put in March of 2007 for Dr Beausoliel, and I just got an appointment to see him at the end of this month , so i know it is a long wait for some people, depending on the urgency (according to them), what I would like to know is how long after the appointment with him is the wait for the surgery and stuff!

Hi

The wait time from first appointment to surgery is roughly 6-9 months.

You first meet with his nurse and him on first appointment then a few months later you will have an all day info session with nurse and dietician and psychologist and then a few months after that you have your surgery.

I think there is a priorty list. If you need knee or hip replacement surgery or heart surgery and you are morbidy obese,  then I think you do get boosted a little on the list.  After you see him list. It took me 3 years to even get in to see him. Most all obese people who are considering surgery as a weight loss tool have been obese for awhile and most of us have co-morbidities and joint and arthritis issues. Goes with the territory.  Hope this answers you question.  :)

Hello
I recently received a call from Dr Beausoleil's office Yesterday actually and I have an appointment July 31 2013, Im wondering if anyone knows what does this appointment usually entail, and if this is the appointment to set up my surgery or is it just a consultation and if so does anyone know how long before i get a surgery date? Im very excited but dont want to get my hopes up just yet! :D

thanks in advance

I had my first appt in may. It was a half hour or so with his nurse. She took my history, any medical issues, what you've done to try to lose weight etc. then weighed me. After she put it all in the computer she took me to another room to wait for dr b. he told me the three different surgeries, lap band, sleeve or bypass and discussed the differences with his preference. He told me it wouldn't take long for the all day session and a couple of months later it would be the surgery. But his nurse says he isn't realistic in this time frame. I am scheduled for my all day session the end of August and his staff says its about six months after that for the surgery.

Hi Erin,

I had waited for 6.5 years got my call to Dr. B last year, i did the first appt which is a consult, the next few are the 8-430 info session, another appt to check how you are doing and testing ( i think) then you go on a 2 week diet of bars and shakes to loose weight before surgery. I was booked January 29 2013 6 months after all the info and appts done and it got cancelled so I had the bypass on March 1 2013. So the nurses are right it is about 6 months after. Dr B is great after my surgery, i had an emergency trip from PEI over to see him and he took an hour from consults to help me as i had a blockage. Just a tio with the shakes, I loved the vanilla but they are only good very very cold so i used ice cubes in mine to make them.

sory if the info is a bit all over the place, just can't quite remember what was when except surgery date!! i know that one has alot of testing involved ie x-ray, blood and ecg so expect to be there for the day.

I had my initial consult with Dr B in March and have signed off on the surgery and now I'm waiting for my call for pre op testing and to start my liquid diet. I think it will be more like 8 or 9 months
