Topic: Philadelphia Gathering of Friends of WLS
Philadelphia Gathering of Friends of WLS Friday, October 6, 2006 - Sunday, October 8, 2006 Adults Only Registration Deadline is September 1, 2006 Late Registration Deadline is September 15, 2006 These weekend gatherings are about meeting and connecting with people who can understand the journey we all have taken and to have fun with fellow WLSers and support people. And this year is something a little special, a Halloween Costume Ball! You can even win prizes for your costumes! So grab your ghoulish gear and come see Philly in the Fall. We have finalized the Hotel Information for the Philadelphia gathering. The cost of the hotel is $99.00/per night, this is per room. You can call the hotel to make your reservations at 1-800-325-3535 or (215)547-4100 by September 15, 2006: Ask for "FRIENDS OF WLS". Sheraton Bucks County Hotel 400 Oxford Valley Road Langhorne, PA 19047 The hotel has a pool, hot tub, sauna and gym for guests to use at no charge. As a lot of people did at past gatherings, we recommend doubling and tripling up in rooms. If you are flying into Philly, the best choice is Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) which is about 30 minutes south of the hotel on I-95; but you could also fly into Newark Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, which is about 1.5 hrs from the hotel. Cabs are available to the hotel, but we will try to organize our own little shuttle service, if we know what time people are coming into the Philadelphia airport. Remember, "You have a Friend in Pennsylvania" is our state motto- we will get you to the hotel! Please feel free to bring your Significant other or Support person, but children will not be allowed at the Friday night or Saturday night events. In addition, the Philadelphia area has a wealth of nearby attractions and shopping. The hotel is down the street from Sesame Place for those interested in a family activity. Topic: RE: Help I am Lost!!!!
Hi! I'm sorry, this is a pretty inactive forum. Have you tried posting to the main messageboard? Click the link up top for Main Messageboard. That's our busiest forum here. Of course there are MANY forums - for each surgery type (RNY, DS, Lapband, etc.) under the forums tab up top. As to your profile, if you know HTML, the comments box under General Info - where you write your journal notes for your profile - accepts HTML. If you don't know how to do HTML, there are some very good free tutorials online - that you can find by using the Google (or other) search engine. Just put HTML Tutorial in the search box. It looks hard, but it's fun when you get into it. Sometimes in the future, we should have templates available to assist members who aren't computer savvy in doing their own 'cute' profiles. If I can assist with anything else, please do let me know. ~Tooter OH Staff

Topic: Help I am Lost!!!!
Well this is my second post and I am so confused on how this site works. For days now I have been clicking through profiles and looking at pic. I am so excited about all the information I am getting. Could someone please tell me how to do a cool profile with designs and stuff and how to add to it each day. Thanks Candy

Topic: got my consult
Okay, I'm taking the plunge. I've got my surgeon's consult and dietary & psych evaluations the end of June. What should I expect at this point? I'm still trying to get insurer's pre-approval for procedure.

Topic: Hi!!!!!
Well for the last 6 days I have been reading profiles on here and It amazes me how I can relate to so many og them. At first I was just going to read the profiles and take notes, but then I decided that I want to share a little too. Well my name is Candy and I am a mother of two very active boys. For as long as I can remember I have been over weight. When I was in the 4th grade I was 175 and wore a size 16/18. I was teased and tounted my intire school career. By the time I was in 11th grade I was at 270. Kids were so mean I dropped out of school and worked instead. At the age of 18 I was at 289 and found my self pregnant. By the end of my pregnancy I was 360. IN a year and a half I was able to get back down to 290, but gained it all back plus alot more three years later with the pregnancy of my second son. This is when my weight hit an all time high. When I went in to give birth I weighed 437. The Dr. took my son by c-section and knocked me all the way out because he was not sure what he would run into when things got under way. I was blessed with a 11lb.3oz boy that day and a 15 pound weight loss( O BOY!). 13 months after he was born I still weighed 427 this was my all time lowest point in my life. I could not enjoy my very active new baby and my 4 yr old was always asking me to play and it took everything I had to chase my son who was just learning to climb stairs. I felt like such a terrible mom. Well I desided that a cyhange is what I need so I moved a few towns away and got a job I loved. I was there 2 yrs and lost 110 pounds. I was down to 317. I had went from a size 34w to a 24/26w and boy was I happy. well that did not last long. By Aug. of 2004 I was back up to 393 and a size 30/32. I tried all those diets and pills and I could not keep it off. My Dr. suggest WLS Sept. 2004. I went to the meeting and everything. I was so excited. Then I found the my insurance did not cover it. So I said ok I will do it my self then. That led me to taking phentramine and major exersising. I was doing kick boxing twice a week and arobics twice a week. Each class was 55 min. Boy was it ever kicking my butt. However the hard work was paying off. By June 05 I had lost 80 pounds. I was now 313 and I could wear a size 24 again. Then life happened. I had a Gallbladder attach and ended up having it removed. That summer My mom was diagnost with breast cancer. My boyfriends Son lost his twin babies . So stress and all got the best of me. Which brings me to the present time. May 8, 2006 Last tuesday my Dr. Informed me I was on the verg of becoming insuline dependent, and my blood pressure was continuing to clime, it was 142/101. So basicly all the working out I had been doing was making things worse instead of better. I have lost 10 pounds. So my most current weight is 358. My Dr. at that piont tells me she believes the best thing for me is WLS. Not only will it help with my heath issues my quality of life would be so much better. She pionts out to me that If I was to loose 180 pounds I could fly on a plane or go on a carnival rid with my boys. BOY did she ever hit the nail on the head there. My seven yr old wants to fly so bad and I want to be the one to be with him when he does. She also says I am at risk of heartattach or stroke. Did I mention I am only 30. So here comes the part I dread. Paying for it. Since I have no insurance it will be coming out of pocket. Which means I have to come up with the 25+ thousand dollors to save my life and enjoy my kids childhood with them. Well I have decided I will have the WLS, not sure the money will come from but at this piont I have no choice. I see mny Dr. on the 30th. Then I attend a WLS meeting 142 miles from here on the 1st of June. I am so scared and excited all at the same time.
