I am from Helena :) I just wante to mention to you both that.... Have you looked into the Duodenal Switch? I would suggest joining all boards before you make a decision. I have heard of a lot of revision surgeries (which are dangerous). Think twice, cut once.

Hi Marina,
I didn't know the docs in Great Falls did the sleeve. I only remember the doctor I saw talking about the lap band and RNY. It's been over a year since I went up there though.
I hope your insurance will cover it! Good luck!

Hi Shelly,
I live in the Bozeman area. I just went to Great Falls today for my consultation. I am opting for the Sleeve. I do have coverage but not sure if they will accept the sleeve. My husband went with me and I was so happy to have him there. I also was able to meet a gentleman that had the lapband 10 months ago. His wife is begining her journey now. It was so nice to ask them questions. I sure wish you well.

I'm still in the research (where the heck will I find the money) phase of WLS. I know I will have to go to Great Falls for surgery sicne the only insurance I have that will cover WLS is Medicare. We have private insurnace, but apparently they would much rather pay for me to have a heart attack and have diabetes, high blood pressure, etc, etc, etc, than pay for WLS (or ANY weight loss help at all!!!!)
Just looking for others locally who are going through this, been through this, whatever!
We use to live in Great Falls, then Billings and now we are in Belgrade. I still go out to Billings every few months for doctor visits (psychiatrist and rheumatologist).
Would love to meet people who are in these areas and might could help point me in the right direction, or even just to vent with!

Topic: I'm back.....sort of
I was on there about a year ago. Never did have surgery because we didn't have the upfront money for all the things my insurnace wanted me to do to be approved.
I'm in Belgrade MT.
Well, now I'm back because I'm just gaining more and more weight. I don't know how much we can come up with, but trying to find out what options there are out there.
I have private insurance and WON'T cover any weight loss treatment (including WLS). I also have Medicare part A and B, which I've found DOES cover WLS if you meet certain requirements. Well, I do for sure. Anyone else have Medicare pay for their surgery? What did you have to do before they would cover it?
The website said they will cover 80% (I assume this is after deductible and copays are met).
I don't have any clue how much WLS costs to begin with.
I would have to go to Great Falls since that is the only "Medicare center of exellence." My parents live there, so they could help out with watching my kids and helping me if I need it.
Really the financial part is what is holding me back. Especially how much I need upfront. I'm hoping to set aside some money every month, but if we are taking thousands of dollars that I need to come up with after Medicare.....it's probably not doable.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: I am still fighting my insurance company.
I have been denied 2 times also. This letter states that my doctor did not provide documentation for attempted weight loss.....I gave up for 3 weeks....Monday I start again dotting i's crossing t's and starting again!! BC/BS is not going to win this one.....now if I can keep this positive while continuing to work on this.....let me know how you are doing, maybe we can encourage each other. :)
Topic: RE: September meeting in glendive
How are the support group meetings going??? Sorry I have missed the last one. Had surgery on 12/29 and doing great. Will try and make Feb meeting. Finding out the protien you didn't like before surgery sits well after. Otherwise things are going well for me. Just this nasty weather to drive in.
Topic: RE: Need Help finding a Surgeon!
Can you go out of state? If so, I'd like to mention Dr. Steven Simper in Salt Lake. I would be super duper wary of being patient number one for any procedure. But I know the distances are tough out there. I grew up about an hour from Bozeman and am planning to get back there within the next few years, and this is an issue I'm thinking about, the availablity of surgeons, medical specialists, etc. I live about an hour from Philadelphia now so I have my choice of every possible world class option in every specialty....It's a comforting feeling, but dang the stuff you have to endure to be in a place with that kind of choice :-/.
Topic: RE: Jealousy
Howdy :-). I'm a native Montanan who landed in New Jersey (pity me LOL, but I'm working on relocating back to God's Country). The insurance thing....What's wrong? Do you have a total exclusion on WLS? Or is it the VSG especially? Can you give details?
Missoula is a marvelous town, too citified for what I want to do, but I enjoy visiting there once in a while. Two of my nieces live there/in the area.

Hey there. I'm a native Montanan who landed in NJ (pity me LOL). Does it have to be Billings? There are options in Great Falls and Bozeman as well.
